Hi was wondering if there are any UK rail staff travel concessions in India? In particular can we obtain any discounts on the AC1/2 30 day passes?

If anyone has any suggestions on scenic rail trips (ideally day ones rather than 10-12hr or overnights) other than the obvious tourist lines (Shimla, Darjeeling, Nilgiri etc) I would appreciate it.

Is it correct the Shimla line now has taken delivery of the 'new' oil burning steam locos and services are more reliable than before & over the whole line?

Not been myself but my mate is a fan of India, and he went on a really simple day trip from Mumbai to the Bhore Ghat incline, on the Mumbai - Pune main line. (This was also visited by John Serjeant in a recent BBC series).

With so much attention on the Gotthard line in Switzerland this year his photos from a recent trip were a salutory reminder that there are much more spectacular railways outside Europe.

Bhore Gat sees double and triple headed trains, bankers , noisy diesels etc
