I wondered if anyone else feels obsessed, almost addicted to reading about transportation?
It drives me crazy but I just can't stop. I get a bus or a train and the whole way I am thinking what could be improved. It's even worse that I am an industry outsider as my mind goes off into completely unrealistic day dreams.
I have ADHD and that is certainly part of it. It's not to say I want to stop reading about transport, but I check my regular sites multiple times a day and there just isn't enough news to quench my insatiable thirst. It leaves me with an empty feeling when I realise there's nothing new to read about, as it would have only been maybe an hour since my last check! I have already exhausted wikipedia for all major cities/countries transport networks.
It helps when there is sport going on, as my energy shifts to that somewhat. My main sports are NFL (I grew up in California and have lived in London for 12 years) but that is a short season. NBA is a long season but so long that most of it is meaningless and loses the drama, similar to how I feel about the Premier League. I mainly get truly interested only in playoffs for NBA or later in season and Champions league for football. I also played rugby for 10 years after moving here but after I stopped playing I, strangely, completely lost interest in watching it.
I guess this compulsiveness will never go away, but I wondered if anyone else has felt similar and found a way to calm the brain and remove some of the frustrations? And in the complete opposite direction, maybe there are transport systems in the world I haven't yet wasted enough time on hahah. Futurology does not interest me. More 'realistic' existing tech and the constant battle against car loving planning. I can't wait for Labour to get into power in the desperate thought that they will increase investment in transport and give me more to get excited about. But actually I have a feeling Keir Starmer will be more about long-term changes in governance and planning rather than a big bang, so the beginning of his term might just be laying the (non)ground work rather than exciting project announcements.
Anyway, random thoughts for the day done!
