Transport for Wales Trainee Train Driver Roles

Hi there,

I’m currently in the application process to become a trainee train driver with tfw.

Does anyone know what the salary is during the training, and the duration of the training?

And any idea what the salary will be once training has been completed?

I copied this from another thread.

It's the lowest rate until you complete all training - not just the 11 weeks in the school but the months of handling afterwards.
It goes up to 90% of the full salary (~£47000) when you drive a train by yourself for the first time.
2 years after that point you go to the full salary, which is currently a little over £52000.

Do you know what the ‘lowest rate’ is by any chance? I’m sure the original advert two years ago mentioned 26k but I could be making that up.

I have my MMI in 2 days, so we will see if I hear anything after that.

Salary: £29,723.00-£54,445.00 per year

Training is usually between 9 and 12 months - the variation is because of the need to complete 265 hours of handling with a Driver Instructor once the classroom training takes place and at some depots that takes longer for a variety of reasons. Also the training on the different types of trains (traction training) varies between depots, and can add to the time it takes.

There is no real guarantee as to how long exactly it'll take, but you're on the lowest part of the scale all that time. The 2 years at the next level (90%) doesn't start until you complete training.
