I don't care what they look like, just get the f**king things in service. Not a big fan of paying over a grand a year to be crammed into a 142 like this morning and every morning this week.

I think a lot of people are thinking the same especially as they were only a stopgap and were leaving in 2023 after tfw gets its class 755s

I think the 'lessons learnt' from the 769 and 230 projects is that don't expect that slinging diesel engines underneath 30+ year old EMUs will be a 'quick fix' to chronic DMU shortages, which is how the 769 and 230 projects were initially sold.

TfW are now paying a very heavy price for the faith that was put in the 769 project 2/3 years ago, to provide a quick capacity fix and cover for the PRM mods project

TfW is getting 755s?

The TOPS numbers for the brand new stock are still TBC, but the final fleet will be 77 "196-like" DMUs, 35 "755-like" units (some TMUs and some DEMUs), 36 "399-like" tram-trains, 12 Class 170 DMUs, 5 Class 230 DEMUs, and Mark 4 coaches on the 67s.

Who reckons not all 9 of the 769s will be in service before they're due to leave the fleet...?

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I’d only heard about the Civities, the tram-trains, the 230s and the mark 4 carriages.

no worries the 170s will move on to different routes after the brand new stock has entered service (and indeed the 769s are due to leave the fleet).

I'd really like to see some of the refurbed 175s stay.

I'd like to see ALL of the 175s stay, and/or the 24 'Welsh' 158s. Hell, I'd be happy to keep everything except the Pacers, 150s and possibly the 153s and use the 769s and 170s on a new Swansea metro system.

I think they have specified 'train-like' tram-trains; since the other part of the Metro will be using the tri-mode FLIRTs and both fleets are from Stadler I'd guess (and it is just a guess) that the floor height will be the same as the Anglian FLIRTs.

No, platforms are not being lowered. The City Link tram-trains for the Valleys will be high floor trams, running under 25 kV wires. Post anymore Qs in the thread PHILIPE linked to.

According to the Northern 769 thread, TFW 769006 should be travelling from Castle Donington to Canton this coming Friday but no schedule has as yet, appeared on RTT

Do we mean 1500 (one-thousand, five-hundred) - 15000 (fifteen-thousand) is an order of magnitude more than amount of fault-free running any other recent new fleets have had to do - 1000-2000 is the norm...
