Are the black bits stairs? If so that ground level void between the stairs/lift and the road (in the middle of the island but lower) isn’t going to be very nice.

How long is Micklefield to Church Fenton shut for? I usually catch 1V46 (0645) from York on a Tuesday, but today it starts from Leeds, so I’ve had to get up early for 1P58 (0620) to connect.

It’s closed all this week to replace the railway bridge over the A162 at Barkston Ash.

Irritatingly, the CrossCountry website just says that services are running fine; it'll be an inconvenience to me Thursday & Friday when I go into the office, but at least I was able to work out there was an issue, two days early. I don;t recall any onboard announcements last week either. I bet some people will have turned up for 1V48 this morning at Leeds and been left wondering.

On topic: it'll be worth it, in the long run

I visited Huddersfield Station this morning to have a look at recent progress. Scaffolding is up on both platforms towards the Manchester end of the station, and the redundant roof columns have been removed. The waiting shelter at the Leeds end of platform 1 has been removed, and a huge temporary office complex has been put up in the former car park. Photos attached.

It says that Church Fenton to Colton Junction should be energised in July, with test trains running in late summer and passenger trains using the wires by May 2025, "some four years after construction work started on this five-mile section."

Church Fenton to Colton energisation is expected on 7 July.

The new A162 bridge was in place with trains running over it on Saturday 1st June as planned. The roadway was opened on Saturday afternoon at some point, more than a full day ahead of schedule. From witnessing trains today there is obviously a temporary speed restriction in place across the bridge which was to be expected. Does anybody know what the speed restriction is?

I believe it's east of Stalybridge, although how far I don't know. I do know design work had started at least a couple of months ago.

"Known as the W2C project a third track will be provided between Huddersfield and Marsden, primarily for freight trains and to increase capacity on the route ready for the larger Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) scheme."

No need to do a global Google, just search back in this thread. W2B originally meant Stalybridge to Huddersfield but now means Stalybridge to Marsden, with W2C being Marsden to Huddersfield. W is west of Leeds and E is east of Leeds.

This is 2.7m, not nanny ORR's 3.5m!

That estimate of later this year may be for when passenger services routinely use it, given that balises for rolling power changeovers are presumably yet to be installed.

5Q29 running under ROG drivers just left Victoria on electric, the timings only show to Miles Platting so some kind of testing going on and positive news! Looks like auto pan drop testing, tested wrong routes and end of wire fun times at Miles Platting, and its gone to Staly now off the end of the wires on electric I assume. Next stop Baguley Fold

It should be 802213 on these workings (5Q28-5Q36) which started at Malton this morning as it worked to there from Heaton T&RSMD yesterday as 5Q16 via Doncaster, to stable overnight.

Interesting that it's working back to Heaton this afternoon as 5Q14 via the Calder Valley and Halifax, Bradford Interchange rev. and then Leeds. Further route/diversionary proving in advance of the more lengthy closures of the Huddersfield line as the Transpennine Route Upgrade work progresses to give more timetable planning options??

Like you say many unusual places, I cannot remember an 800 going to Bradford Interchange before but presuming it has happened. It also went over Diggle cross over too so an interesting day for all on board. I wondered where it had come from originally!

Couple of masts onto he west end section being fully removed due to clearance, rest of the roof being restored.
