No change by the looks of things, gaps from bromley street to miles platting junction, the m60 bridge and from oldham road bridge to stalybridge.
I did notice two sprayed-out areas in the DA cess, just before & just after the M60 viaduct - these must be for 2 new portals. Additionally, at Stalybridge, I noticed a small team of engineers working behind a fenced-off area beyond the Platform 5 buffers - perhaps that'll be for an anchor supporting wires into P5?

I've received a letter today from Network Rail, inviting me (as a Railway Neighbour) to a community event regarding the upcoming work at Batley Station and the Lady Anne level crossing.

The event is scheduled for Thursday 22nd September, so presumably won't be affected by events pertaining to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Latest dates for engineering works on the Stalybridge line.

Sundays 2, 9 & 16 October 2022

Services between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly

We will be carrying out improvement works between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly.
Hull – Manchester Piccadilly services will be diverted to/from Manchester Victoria instead.
For people needing to make onward connections at Manchester Piccadilly, the frequent Free Bus 2 service runs between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly.
Check before you travel at National Rail Enquiries.

Modification to existing fence line on boundary between operational railway land and the Rassbottom St Industrial Estate and the Installation of Overhead Line Equipment [OLE] and other supporting electrical infrastructure required in connection with Transpennine Route Upgrade programme.
Land Within Stalybridge Railway Station Rassbottom Street Stalybridge Tameside
This planning application on Tameside Council's website shows that a little bit of land around the back of the Rassbottom Trading Estate & Stalybridge Scout Hut will need to be acquired. It also, rather handily, shows that the majority of structures on the approach to Stalybridge from the west will indeed be Portals - even the "MVL/xx/xx" numbers are given.

Not seen this mentioned.

Did a trip via Ashton yesterday and noticed catenary and contact wire is installed on the Up Ashton from just after Ashton Moss North Jn to about 1/2 mile before Clayton Bridge LC. Nothing on the Down Ashton, and indeed some danglies still missing/not set up. Earth wire is in place for a greater distance.

Feels like about a full tension length (from the green footbridges west of the M60 to the eastern end of the Clayton Viaduct). IIRC there are still a couple of structures missing on the Down.

Wire runs began last week.

800001 and on the locked question on Neville Hill works posted about the depot eventually being closed along with the removal of the sidings for the new upgraded lines. Are there plans to open a new Leeds area depot?

I hadn't heard of Neville Hill being on the cards for closure.

They've been doing piling works outside the freightliner depot near guide bridge station, seen posts on linkedIn.

AFAIK, Neville Hill won't be accessible for a time. So I imagine an alternative location will be required. And given the expression of interest into new rolling stock to take advantage of TRU, I'd imagine Hitachi will need somewhere bigger than just Doncaster.

I seem to recall Healey Mills was suggested as an alternative site while NL is offline, though that may have just been speculation. Use of the Healey Mills site would require a LOT of work, as over the last decade and a bit since it was cleared and decommissioned it has basically become a forest.

Cheers for all the replies, that would explain the new sidings that opened at Wakefield Cobra for stabling Northern stock recently, maybe the plan is many smaller sidings? I guess if a new depot is required Healey Mills is a good location despite the trees. Interesting times

There are also some new sidings at Blackburn station, (i.e. not in the light maintenance depot) and aren't there also some going in at Hunslet?

All in all Northern have a substantial supply of space now compared with a decade ago, when taking into account the opening of Blackburn, expansion of Newton Heath and the new sidings at Springs Branch. Was Hull also expanded?

They will also lose some stabling locations in the coming years. As well as Neville Hill being temporarily unavailable, the new platforms at Huddersfield will mean the removal of the sidings currently there. There has been rumour that a light maintenance depot will be built at Hillhouse (between Huddersfield and Deighton) but this can't happen until after the route upgrade is completed in that area, as the site is set to be used for a temporary station while Huddersfield is being rebuilt.

Is there anyone else in the Yorkshire TV area who saw Liz Truss being interviewed tonight on the Calendar News programme? Did she really say that a complete new line will be built from Liverpool to Hull and that it will go through Bradford?

I’ve seen Shipley mentioned as a site for new carriage sidings, possibly for DMU worked services out of the lower numbered platforms at Leeds as well as West Yorkshire EMU services.
Can't think of anywhere suitable in the Shipley area off the top of my head, unless Crossleys scrapyard is closing.

If the Hillhouse plan goes ahead, I'd expect it would be wired given that the main line will be by then.

Maybe on the Harrogate line immediately south of Kirkstall Viaduct? Fair bit of flat railway land there and close to the Leeds North West lines too.

Just a gentle reminder this is a thread for updates regarding what is actually happening regarding the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

To discuss what might happen, please create a new thread, or use an existing one if there is one.

Wakefield Cobra was to replace Holbeck while that was cut off IIRC. Perhaps, once the Holbeck work is done, Holbeck & Cobra would be used together?
Of course this doesn't quite answer all the questions of stabling the electrics (unless they get sent to Doncaster). Healey Mills would require lots of OLE if it were indeed to be used for stabling everything currently alloxed to NL.

Back to current works - 3 portals have popped up over the 125mph turnouts at Colton Jn, to replace 2 of the 3 headspans that currently straddle them. Additional brackets have appeared on the northernmost headspan above the middle span wire on each mast - which indicates they might be converting that headspan into a portal...

I went to Sainsbury's at Ashton-under-Lyne Moss last night and could see a few gantries behind the store.

From what I've heard Crossleys is closing (if you go past by rail it does seem significantly emptier recently) and there may also be some additional space created at Skipton for stabling.
