Also speaking of Dewsbury, are the plans now to extend the 4-tracking beyond the new junction at Ravensthorpe? Previous plans showed the Leeds lines going back to double after the flyover. As I've said multiple times before, four tracks through Dewsbury station would actually slow trains down rather than speeding fast services up, due to the alignment of the structures either side.
The four tracks in the T&W Order scheme cross the Calder on a new alignment north of Ravensthorpe, then rejoin the old alignment and reduce to two tracks. A wiggle in the alignment is straightened out near the bridge over Thornhill Road /Fall Lane and then the scheme ends.

Given that they’ve taken this wiggle out they might as well increase the linespeed to 100mph all the way to Dewsbury just before the curve in the W3 scheme.

There’s also a couple of questions regarding Dewsbury:
1. When will the current platform 1 track and required switches be removed and platform 1 built out to meet the current through line to become the Bicester North of the North?
2. What will change elevation, the track or the bridge? The only example of such a style of bridge with electrification threaded under is Bingley where the track had to be lowered to fit the wires under the tunnel at the western end of the platform.
3. (And most importantly) will the West Riding Refreshment Rooms remain open during any intervention at Dewsbury?

I believe that the Track lowering at Bingley was due to the overbridge sinking because of the Bypass roadworks and moving of the canal.
The Dewatering of the area caused the subsidence. The track lowering was the only quick solution.
The Road contractors had to resurvey the whole station area.

Is there a standard name for a three track cantilever? (In post #5200) I guess it’s not going to be abbreviated to TTC…

Just passed Miles Platting and counted five posts on the Rochdale-line side, two with angle supports at the top (unconnected). Also were two others that appeared to have the full boom? across to the right-hand side.

Anymore works planned for the stalybridge line has the dashboard hasn't been updated and the actual network rail page has engineering works upto last Sunday.

This months Modern Railways quotes that the Miles platting Stalybridge electrification works out at a stunning 3 miles a year.
Perhaps the Church fenton - Colton may be competitive.
At one time they used to teach that to run any successful buisness you had to be slick or you woukd fail. Hmm.

There certainly isn't any urgency to deliver these works and no wonder they cost so much when you think how long the site setup and project mgt overheads have to be in place. Is there even a published completion window?

Isn't it a case of making best use of the permissions NR has got to do advance work on TRU?
It will depend on the scope of the contracts NR has let, and the funds available (with regard to possible overruns elsewhere).
The post-IRP setup might allow work to go faster/earlier, as it appears to have done on MML.

Apart from the TPE bimodes (and can they change mode on the move?) is there actually rolling stock available to make use for local services or is it maybe a case of matching the timing to the Lostock to Wigan scheme?

Weren't 769's supposed to do a Staylebridge-Southport service?

All the 800/802 bimodes including TPE’s can changeover on the move. But TPE apparently don’t do it yet for some reason.

I would assume the reason is why make things more complicated when you are stopping at the end of the wires to pick up passengers anyway?

As for stock there will be a surplus of 323s shortly not to mention 769s can make use of the wires on their entire run from Wigan to Stalybridge

Presumably they'll start doing so when Colton to Church Fenton goes live, otherwise it'd be a bit of a waste.
I agree, however in previous discussions insiders seemed to be suggesting it wasn’t going to be done on the section either side of Berwick on the ECML, despite NR installing the necessary track side control equipment. IIRC it was said TPE management felt changeover in a station was safer.

That worries me. The financial case for using OHLE wherever possible should be overwhelming. And if its not overwhelming, then there can be no business case to install/extend OHLE in the first place
