Hi,

Does anyone know why TPE doesn’t offer seat reservations for season ticket holders please? This seems like a really odd decision.

The attached link is for TPE’s passenger charter, the page numbered 6 of which states:

Please be aware that we do not offer seat reservations for season ticket holders

It might be that they don’t do standalone reservations, and only provide you with one when you book an advance fare. A season ticket effectively validates you on every single service on the specified route for a full year, so it wouldn’t be possible to reserve one with the booking unless they booked you onto every single service. And obviously that’s not reasonable.

TPE allow standalone reservations for off peak day singles etc. which you can do on their website even if you bought the ticket elsewhere. Can’t understand why they wouldn’t allow season ticket holders to reserve their own tickets in this way too.

The TPE process takes a couple of minutes per seat booking, so I’d be surprised if someone did that.

In all fairness though, someone with an off peak day single could do the same thing.

It used to be a regular option with an Anytime return Scotland to London. Reserve a seat at the ticket window for the 2pm 3pm 4pm 5pm 6pm Friday departures home on a Friday. Just needed 5 separate visits to multiple ticket windows.

I note that TPE are now doing those dreadful seat reservations that people can book part way through the journey.

Yet another curse on the modern railway.

Infact since TPE are back to running three carriage trains everywhere, they may as well ditch reservations altogether.

Hopefully it's just on the 802s for now. I remember when they trialled it on the 185s with seat reservation cards that said along the lines of 'This seat may be reserved throughout the journey'. Caused countless arguments.
