Have a look here mate, first page there's a reply from bezzer which pretty much sums up the test, you get 15 mins but aren't expected to do all 20.

I'd rather do 10 and get 10 right than rush and get a lot wrong. Like I saw somewhere on here, quality over quantity
Spot on Dannk, accuracy is the key. As the name of the test suggests it's all about fault-finding, it's only 15 minutes long and is designed NOT to be finished, so if you answer 17 questions (which I don't believe for a minute!) but only correctly identify 8 faults (there can be up to 2 priority faults in any one question) then I'm fairly sure that wouldn't get a pass. If you answered 4 or 5 but got them completely correct then the deciding factor will be exactly where the line is drawn to achieve the 50% reduction in the number of candidates going through to the next stage.
The job stats are: 2,500 applicants, 300 through to fault-finding, 150 to the next stage, 10 positions available.
According to the detailed information provided :
Stage 2 - An Aptitude Test = Trainability (TRP) and a Safety Test = Group Bourdon.
Stage 3 - A further Safety Test = Reaction & Co-ordination (DTG) and the structured interview.
Make no mistake, this is a tough tough process, if you get through it with a job offer at the end then you should be damn proud with your achievement, but if you fail then it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

The HR woman said over 2000 applications
, 300 through with 10 jobs before the test on Monday.
I thought she said 3000 down to 300 but all I care about is passing this bloody test!
I take it this doesn't count as 1 of the 2 assessment fails or does it? First always seem to do things differently. Last time they threw a mangers interview in between stage 2 and 3. Not giving the people a chance to get a complete assessment pass.
Wouldn't have thought it would count as its not an industry wide test is it-just one they do to help filter the candidates.

I like others am still awaiting shortlisting. I have had a a thought (or wishful thinking!!)
Do all candidates have to go through the DFFT or are there some candidates that automatically progress to the next stage say for example due to competencies achieved during the application sift?

Who knows, i carry out fault finding on trains every day of my working life and I had to sit it!
Out of interest have you been in touch with them?

LOL. No, I have not asked them about this directly, I think I will be doing if I do not get an update on the system soon. Just wanted to know whether anyone else had been through what I had previously described.

Hi just received this email looks like I could of got through to assessments stages but just was too many of us , hope there's a recruitment within 6 months .

Ah that really is hard to take mate. So frustrating that you met the requirements. I'd say now to any who have an application status of anything but on hold to get in touch. Seems that there are only going to be assessments today and tomorrow and it would be daft to leave it any later.
Karlo why don't you get in touch and ask to be a reserve for all 3 assessments tomorrow? I'd make the point that you don't mind sitting around all day waiting for a drop out.
I think there was definitely spaces at our and one guy was late and got let in so you never know its worth a try if it means so much to you.

Those figures were quoted by the FTPE HR person before the test.

Neil, I was awaiting shortlisting for months after some posters on here were going through various stages of recruitment for FGW. Don't forget there might be more vacancies later on and the company may find most of those shortlisted will not be suitable.........stay patient, I did. I start work as a Trainee Driver a week Monday!

Do you know or does anyone else know if the 6 months is from the closing date or from when you receive the e-mail?

Hi all, first time post but been reading with interest for last few months, so thanks to everyone for a great resource.
Went along to Manchester yesterday for the DFFT, tbh this was the part of the process I'd been dreading the most as I've found it difficult to get anything other than a general idea of what was involved. I needn't have worried as the actual test is straightforward and I felt I gave it a decent shot, completing 10 (and 3/4 frustratingly!) in the shortest 15 minutes of my life. Now I can only hope I got them all right and that it's enough to make the cut, although from speaking to a couple of guys and a quick glance at the end it would seem that 10 was a fairly popular score in my session so wish I'd got the 11th written in time!

for the reaction tests guys... take a look at the mock reaction test which is kicking around within these forums....
it really is a great way to practice and is so similar to the test you take for the assessments.

I've been reading this thread for a while now and decided to join and post. Like a few others on here I am still 'awaiting shortlisting'. As it's taking so long and people have had assessments this week I decided to email them. This was their reply:
'We are currently waiting for the results of shortlisting from the line
manager, as soon as we have received this we will contact you by email with
the outcome of your application, the shortlisting is being done in stages
due to the number of applications we have received
Unfortunately we do not have time scales on how long the shortlisting
takes.'
Guess I'll just have to wait.

Hi Bottump I guess that's a generic response because that was the reply I got from an email I sent to HR a couple of weeks ago. I assumed as people started getting invites to assessments that i had missed out. I don't mind if that's the case I just want acknowledgement from TPE so I can get on and not keep checking my emails a million times a day!!
I got successful at part assessment too!!!
Is that definitely a new update? Soooo pleased if it is. I did a confident 8 out of 20.
