I just wanted to say, the assessments are taking place over 2 weeks and it is not just Monday Tuesday and wendesday next week. Ones that are still awaiting short listing don't worry yet! And keep everything crossed.

Hello,

i received an email today inviting me to do testing and interviews on Wednesday.

A few things i was wondering,

Does anybody have any idea how many have got through to this stage?

When everyone applied did you specify a certain depot to work at? I don't remember being given the option although i would be willing to work at most of the advertised depots.

Also I haven't received any info through the post to do with preparation for tests, should I be worried?!

Mark - your selection process may be slightly different, most of those emailed in the last few days and invited for testing next week are doing just a fault-finding test, no interview.

The literature that accompanied the invite said that no practice material was necessary.

Because I have been offered a job with FGW, a nice lady from FTPE rang me up and asked if instead of removing me from the shortlist, can she put me on hold until I sign the contract with FGW, because, as she put it 'You are a man in demand now you have completed the assessments'. Rather nice of her I thought.........

I can only go by the last intake...

There was an initial group of candidates interviewed and another a few weeks later, I can only guess that there were not enough suitable in the first interview.

I haven't got an interview next week, just the fault finding test like everyone else!

Re-checked my email after I posted on here and noticed an attachment that explained everything. It wouldn't initially open on my mobile. At least I only have one thing to prepare for which should be more straightforward.

I will make some enquiries to see how many people are invited to assessment. Even if it is 300 people. 2500 people applied, we have all done well to get invited. Now this is where the real competition starts.

Hi everybody. Long time reader but first time joiner / poster. I've received my date for the assessment this coming Wednesday. It is quite a fantastic achievement for myself to even get to this stage knowing how many have been unsuccessful in the first stage. I've got some hard studying to do now!

One question though. For the Group Bourdon test which I have been practicing, on the SCAAT (as GBT) isn't working, what should I be looking at for targets omitted per 1x3 sheets? Keen to start as I mean to carry on

I'm not sure how hard this DFFT is and I can't find any info or examples on the test. I have found an input / switch / output fault finding test which is bloody hard work and a good brain exercise but by the sounds of it it nothing like the one we will get this week.

42 hours time and ill be sitting the test!

Me too actually, got bloody man-flu to deal with which is just such bad timing but Im feeling confident enough.

Last time I went for stage one assessments for the same job it was all the tests in one day and I passed them. Didn't take this one then though so this is all new.

I did this test last year and to be honest its pretty straightforward.

Just work to your own pace and don't rush.

If you do, you'll miss error/faults, that means you lose points.

Stick to the quality not quantity rule.

The same pattern applies to all these tests.

Work to your own limits, forget about the person next to you.

Chances are they will be rushing to finish and will have probably missed things.

The examiner will go through a couple of sample exercises at the start, just so you get a feel for whats required and how to find the faults properly.

Its not rocket science.

If your level headed and calm under pressure you'll be fine.
