After a thorough review, the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester has decided to retire the annual Trans Lancs historic vehicle show from the calendar.

The event was becoming more and more difficult and expensive to run, and the ever-busier park was starting to cause safety concerns.

Also in more recent years, the Museum has created a successful programme or running days that offer a better experience for people who want to take rides on vintage buses.

We'll maintain and grow our events programme, but the Trans Lancs won't be part of our future.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this event.
The Museum Of Transport have sadly announced this event has been retired after many successful years, due to rising costs etc. Whilst understandable/ not completely unexpected this is really disappointing news for an event that has run for so long. The Museum will continue to develop their successful running days, but these will be unlikely to draw the variety of buses the show used to.

One of the other reasons given for the event's demise was a lack of respect being shown towards both vehicles and owners by certain elements of the public. This was demonstrated in Edinburgh recently at the Lothian Buses Centenary cavalcade. When the vehicles were parked up on display in George Street after the event, one of the blinds on preserved Olympian 285 was broken by an enthusiast winding the blind on too hard and which was witnessed by the Lothian MD. (The enthusiast was promptly removed from the vehicle.)

A shame that it has been retired, and a pity that it couldn't have been moved to another location elsewhere within the Manchester area. It creates the impression that this year's cancellation has provided the impetus to get rid permanently. That's now two really popular rallies in the north west that have gone in recent years (the other being Blackpool's Totally Transport), and a third that nearly collapsed (Fleetwood)!

The museum says that they want to grow the events programme - the problem is that there just isn't the parking available for both visiting vehicles and members of the public, and the former is a particular problem because running days mean the museum have to park vehicles outside.

However, to those people that are guilty of interfering with other people's vehicles - LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!
