Trainsplit seems offering more expensive splits than one flexible return

I am looking for tickets for my mates going to travel in early September weekend, from Guildford to Faversham, using forum's ticketing site.
It seems rather weird that the forum site generated in both "Fixed Time" and "Flexible" options, more expensive splits than one single flexible return ticket.


The Off-Peak return from Guildford to Faversham "+ Any Permitted" with railcard discount be like £35.95, which is permitted to go via HS1 or legacy line services.
In fixed option, it offered a £36.90 split, which is on the permitted route of flexible ticket between Guildford and Faversham


In Flexible option, it offered £38.65


I am not sure if the algorithm of the site may find tricky to generate cross-London journey with different routings. No other advance options were set in the search.

The Beta sites offers me the Off-Peak return correctly

Is the issue (possibly) afternoon peak hour restrictions affecting the use of the outward portion of the £35.95 ticket (i.e. the Off Peak Return)? Anyone able to confirm?

Only afternoon restrictions in the electronic data are Paddington, Reading and St Pancras (Thameslink/EMR only).

It's a routeing issue rather than a restriction code one. Currently trying to work out exactly what's wrong with it

There are so many routing options available for this journey, maybe the North Downs Line (Redhill - Guildford) or via St Pancras HS1 be the routeing issue in electronic planning?

(The prohibitive transfer time between Waterloo and Waterloo East / St Pancras - Waterloo / Vauxhall seem to be pushing people to change at London Bridge for a shorter interchange time instead)

I think the issue is that the inbound journey goes via Barnes instead of Wimbledon (due to engineering works on the 8th). Via Barnes is not a permitted route between Guildford and London Group from a quick look.
