Hi there!

I tried to used this site today to see the possible split fares between Redcar Central and Nottingham.

The website doesn't seem to work, and was wondering if there another 'short cut' tool to use instead?

If anyone has tips (on possible routes and breaking points) it would be extremely helpful.

Untill then I will play with the booking engines and see what I can come up with. Maybe a good start would be RCC - YRK (Not Darlington)...

It appears to be working for me. What exactly did you click and what happened?

Just Redcar Central to Nottingham for 22nd Feb and returning 24th, times from am. The webpage states 'There are no journeys available within three hours of your start time and date. Please go back and try different times, dates or stations. Change Journey' :)

I had trouble this week with the TCBC website. It refused to work at all when I asked it for a day return to Portsmouth!

Can anybody give an example of a journey that works on the 2tix.co.uk site? I tried it a few weeks ago and it said no trains were available; now it just says an unhandled exception was thrown by the application.

Ah; I have found a journey that works. The one it is having trouble with is an early morning journey from Reading to Coventry, returning the same day.

http://2tix.co.uk/ is a newish (?) site and maybe worth a try.

Unfortunately, this site gave incorrect information on the first search that I tried (this query being a good test of any such website):

- London (all stations) to Shrewsbury return
- Out on a weekday at noon
- Returning on another weekday at noon (within a month)

The results only show fares if travelling route "ANY PERMITTED" or "VIA BIRMINGHAM". Cheapest return here is the latter at £53.60. They don't show:

- "VIA HIGH WYCOMBE" (ie Chiltern from Marylebone) - £32.50 return
(http://brfares.com/#faredetail?orig...n&flow=1&multi=2&fare=2&rte=305&ldn=0&tkt=OPR)

- "ATW AND LM ONLY" - excellent new ticket from 2nd January - (ie London Midland from Euston) - £23.00 return
(http://brfares.com/#faredetail?orig...n&flow=0&multi=0&fare=8&rte=371&ldn=0&tkt=OPR)

I have mailed them to point this out, but I assume this is not the only misleading information that the site is presenting.

It would also be helpful if http://trainscanbecheaper.info had a "Contact Us" link on the site.

It is indeed a promising site. However, there are some basic errors in there, eg it claims that Kings Cross to Glasgow via Edinburgh is not a permitted route.

What exactly is '2Tix' supposed to do? I put in a journey I take regularly (St Pancras - Ashford) and it just gave me the price of a London Terminals to Ashford Intl plus High Speed SVR. The cheapest ticket that would enable someone to do this journey is a bit cheaper.

I believe its supposed to suggest split ticketting options that can save money, if there are some available on that route.

Well I just had a crack at POO (Poole) - EXD (Exeter St Davids)
Sorry, we were unable to find trains matching your route from to on . This may be a problem with TwoTix's searching system, contact us if you think so.

That might be what it is supposed to do but it doesn't. I've tried it with a very simple one where the return fare is £46.50 and a very simple split reduces that to £34.80, and a clever split reduces it further, but it states there are no cheaper walk on fares than the £46.50 one.

Apologies - I'm having trouble with the timetabling system. It should be functioning OK now.

Sorry - I can't put contact details onto the site. But I do monitor this forum so if you post any problems here I will see them. I'm looking at the AS map problem now.

Edit: the problem with London to Glasgow via Edinburgh is that the assumed route is the Bathgate line (as it's the shortest route). In fact, this isn't a permitted route on map AS *unless the map has changed recently and I have an old version*. If you search via Edinburgh and Falkirk High, you will see that TCBC shows the route as permitted.

OK, that makes sense. You are right that map AS does not allow travel via Bathgate (presumably nobody bothered to update it when the line to Airdrie opened).

However, I still think that if you want people to have full confidence in the site then they shouldn't be expected to do obscure things like put in Falkirk High above. Note sure how easy that is to code, though!
