From what I've heard in the past lots of people join this GCR to WEY at Yeovil espcially during good weather.

Clearly another unit must have failed! I'm sure GWR wouldn't have intentionally put a single 150 on such a busy service!

Or never got off the Depot due repairs. There are 2x150/2s at Wolverton at any one time for Mods so the fleet is stretched, especially during the Summer.
Much of the booked strengthening is rather an ambition !!!
Absolutely, though there were plenty of people waiting at virtually every station Frome onwards. Even a family of about 10 at Thornford! Shame it couldnt have been swapped for a 158/9 at Bristol or a 150/9 off the Severn Beach line and then swapped back again later. (Though that morning Gloucester to Weymouth train then forms the notoriously busy 16.40 Gloucester - Weymouth later in the day, which was probably formed of 2 coaches too)

With wires down in more than one location according to the information being given out, I noted 67023 at the head of 1S28 1800 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh, both at King's Cross prior to departure and later through Welwyn Garden City about 50 minutes late. It had a class 91 and well loaded Mark 4 set in tow. I did not get the class 91 identity, save that it was one of the ones with a BR style cast nameplate. RTT show that it was 150 late into Edinburgh, but doesn't show any stops long enough for a loco change. I presume it worked throughout, but the loco was back at King's Cross by Wednesday afternoon.
I tried to post this to the 'Rail-gen' Yahoo group at the time, but nothing ever appeared...

Ripping off the Thunderbird loco should only need a couple of minutes, so it could have easily been done during a slightly extended stop at Peterborough. Depends where the issues were, it might have gone all the way to Doncaster before the 67 came off for example. A diversion may have been needed via the Joint Line, which would have added a lot of delay to the service, and of course diesel haulage between Peterborough and Doncaster.
