I was drooling over that GNR Atlantic, Stephen! Sadly I've just watched the vids on a computer without a soundcard, so was a bit wasted really - I'll check them out later. Years ago I remember designing a small "chuffer" sound unit to be fitted inside an 00 gauge loco. - A white noise generator modulated by a slotted opto switch interrupted by a disc attached to an axle, with a number of holes depending upon the number of cylinders. It worked quite well considering. Another one of my projects was to develop a system of track circuiting for 00 2-rail system. That also worked, but never got around to completing the layout!
Electronics have come on leaps and bounds nowadays, the engines all seem to carry a miniature computer, a technology which wasn't really around in my day.

Thank you Alan. It is an extremly nice model. it runs alot better now, ive put some oil on it. Yes, its so much better with sound

Track circuiting on 2 rail, can you remember the circuits as my friend is trying to do something like that!

I shall see if I can come up with the details, Stephen. In the meantime check out a book called "Model Railway Electronics" by Roger Amos - one of the few railway electronics writers who actually knows what he is talking about! My circuit was done some 30 years ago, and used germanium transistors, old hat now, but I'm sure the original circuitry could be updated to use modern components.
