It's been quite a while since I uploaded any photos. I enjoyed a nice day at the National Tramway Museum on Monday (August Bank Holiday) and have uploaded the photographs in three sections.
I spent 50 minutes at Derby station waiting for the 10.50 to Matlock and filled the time browsing the station and snapping watever beacme available. After many, many years of looking really run-down Derby station is starting to really brighten up and, apart from the modern austerity of the materials used, is looking bright and airy. There is still much work to be be done but it will be a marked improvement when completed.
The second section is of the trams at Crich. I have been going there very regularily since attending the very first Transport Extravaganza back in 1967and I have never been disappointed. However, you do notice the cut backs on the number of trams running and the side shows such as Classic Cars, Traction engines, Fun Fair and Flea Market are very much reduced these days. However, there is still plenty to see and apart from the rather bleak and wet weather at times I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
The third section is of the Classic Cars, Traction Engines and Motorbikes. There was also a very interesting Stanly Steam Lorry, which was in excellent condition.
I also had a very nice surprise when I bumped into a couple of chaps that I worked with way back in 1962 in Aberdeen. That's 47 years ago! and you suddenly meet right out of the blue. Fantastic.
If you are looking for somewhere to do voluteer work, and perhaps also learn to drive trams or be a conductor you should check the museum out. They are always looking for volunteers.
