Trains stopping at the same station twice

What about the 0622 Leeds to Leeds via Brighouse?

Not sure that the 0622 Leeds to Leeds is one train, it's advertised as Leeds - Halifax and appears as such on Real Time Trains.

It seems it is two separate services (with two different reporting numbers)

Last time I went on the Fife Circle (which was around 2006 so it may have changed since) the automated announcement on leaving Edinburgh was "For Edinbugh Waverley" calling at all the places on the circle.

They were going to change Fife circle services into 2 distinct trains. This was because of the 'through trains' rule on fares. A Haymarket-Waverley ticket is valid on a through service via the Fife Circle. Getting rid of the through services and calling them 2 seperate trains avoids this anomaly.
Has this been done now?

Not sure, because the departure boards always refer to them as being for Glenrothes anyway.

Although officially (headcodeswise) they are still through services, and are shown as such on NRE. Which I imagine could be confusing if you're going to Newcraighall from Waverley and looking up your platform online, and seeing that there's a train for Newcraighall on platform 20, only to realize once it departed that it's going to Newcraighall the loooong way round. :P

I've been on a Gunnislake - Liskeard service before that went up to Plymouth before going back down towards Cornwall, meaning stopping at Devonport, Dockyard, and Keyham twice.

Can you tell us which service returns from Gunnislake with the same headcode as the outward working? If it's two separate headcodes, it's two separate services...

I think in recent times the main round robin services were the loco hauled, 67 + Mk 2's.

As far as I am aware, these have been split into two services for the reasons you describe. I am led to believe ScotRail, for a time, wanted to pretend the through ticket rule didn't exist....:roll:

The problem with splitting the trains in two is that journeys like Cowdenbeath to Kirkcaldy will incorrectly look like they require a change of trains.

In any case, doesn't that just run via Dewsbury outward and via Bradford Interchange on the return (or vice-versa)? In which case even if it was a single service, it doesn't actually call at any station twice- assuming Leeds doesn't count as it's the origin and destination.

The 0622 runs from Leeds to Brighouse via Halifax, it arrives in Brighouse at 0712, it then departs Brighouse at 0712 and runs back to Leeds arriving at 0756.

The timetable (WYMetro Guide 1) shows it as one through service.
