Trainpal cooperation with TOCs

This is something I’ve seen discussed lightly on here. I have seen a few members ask questions regarding this topic.

So once and for all, does anyone have any information that indicates whether or not Trainpal has ever been seen to cooperate with TOCs following a data request regarding prosecution? I am tired of seeing the question unanswered so often

As far as I'm aware, all retailers are obliged under their licence terms to cooperate with industry fraud investigations. That said, some retailers are better than others at verifying the grounds for a data request.

Larger retailers will almost certainly have automated systems they use to deal with the volume of requests they'll receive, and Trainline in particular don't seem to conduct much (if any) sanity-checking of requests. They also seem to hold purchase records longer than can be justified under the GDPR.

Smaller retailers don't tend to have the same automated processes and so requests tend to be verified manually before anything is released.

Anyone know if this data is supplied free on request, or is there a charge made? (Similar to DVLA £2.50 charge to private parking companies seeking VRM info concerning keepers) this turns out to be quite a valuable revenue stream for DVLA, so for TOCs intent on ‘fishing expeditions’ do they pay the retailers or their endeavours?

From experience, I don't think retailers are being reimbursed for their costs in supplying the data, but there may be individual exceptions or agreements (especially for the larger retailers like Trainline).
