Can anyone advise please.

Booking office refund guidance states if more than one ticket is bought in the same transaction from a train company only one admin fee will be charged.

Have the Trainline/third party vendors got different rights to charge two fees ???

They can charge a £10 admin fee per ticket, and the official policy of most of them is to do that.

The only exception I know of is Trainsplit, who only charge one £10 fee per transaction.

However bnm reported success in getting Thetrainline* to only charge one £10 fee, so if you (or whoever bought the ticket) try contacting them, see if you can haggle them down to one £10 fee. Let us know how you get on.

*Edit: just realised, I think it was XC (who use thetrainline) so it may not work with thetrainline directly.

Vendors are quite entitled to charge an admin fee per ticket if they wish. We chose to charge it per transaction, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

I was successful in beating them down to one fee !!! Quoted the industry refund conditions and played the angle that once again the trainline type WEBTIS which makes people buy "two singles" had doubled their initial fare minus a mere £1 !!!! Ie- 2 singles up for £51.50, two singles back for £51.50 when 2 SVRs were £52.50 for everything............grrr.

Glad to hear it :)

Some companies have a policy of being harsh unless you make a fuss, then they relent. Most people probably don't make a fuss and just cough up :|

What you have to remember about booking office guidance is that it is precisely that, guidance. You might even find staff who are willing to apply one fee per application (provided the tickets are all from the same vendor), regardless of the tickets being bought together or not.
