Trainline introduce Splitsave fee

It appears Trainline have, at least for some customers, sneakily introduced an additional fee for split tickets. I don't know how it is calculated, but it does mean choosing them on the day for splits is no longer as good value as it was.

I believe it's 15% of the saving, capped at a maximum of 30% of the value of the tickets.

Pretty sure this fee has existed a few months now, rather than just recently appearing.

Trainline often phases fee changes in for different groups at different times - certainly I have only seen it very recently because of one of my regular splits coming up with a price that wasn't a multiple of 10p.

For comparison what's the TrainSplit fee? I think similar?

Having just done a search for a Single from Marylebone to Bicester, departing now, on both the forum site and in the Trainline app, it appears to be slightly more than 15%.

The through fare is £35.80 and both sites identified splitting at Princes Risborough (thanks to Oval Phase 2) as being the cheapest option, totalling £22.20. Trainsplit's share of savings fee is £2.04 and Trainline's SplitSave fee is £2.09.

Just played around with the app for 5 minutes.

It seems to be 15% rounded up to the next value ending in 9p, with a total cap of £2.79. (I wasn't able to test out the 30% cap on the total ticket value that @hexagon789 mentions as I couldn't find any suitable fares where such a cap would be applied)

The SplitSave fee also appears to be charged in lieu of the booking fee rather than alongside it.

That's whats happening on my end at least.

Not for me, it comes up with both. However for on the day sales on the app there is no booking fee anyway, splitting or no.

I did wonder if the fees would vary like that...I'm guessing it's so they can get some data on what different customers are willing to pay?

I should note they didn't charge the SplitSave fee every time, instead charging the booking fee.

Those numbers look very familiar, I wonder how TTL came up with them?!
