Trainline-based Ticket websites and Firefox

For as long as I can remember, I have always been unable to purchase tickets from Trainline-based websites (Cross-country / Transpennine Express etc.) using Mozilla Firefox. I wondered if anyone else encountered similar problems, or whether it is something with my set up? (Not sure if this is the right forum btw, please move if necessary.)

Basically, everything works perfectly fine, up until the point where, once I've entered my card details, that extra security box comes up provided by your bank, where for me at least (Natwest), I have to enter certain digits of my password. Once I've done that and press ok (the final step!), I get an error saying something along the lines of "the URL is invalid and cannot be loaded." However, there isn't a single problem if I make the purchase in Internet Explorer.

Strangely, when this extra bank security page comes up on any other website on the internet, it works fine in Firefox too.

I've never seen this problem mentioned on the internet, and I can't seem to see anything after a quick Google, but I figured I would ask anyway.

I've never had any problems with Firefox 3, 6 or 7 (haven't used anything in between) and Natwest

Hmm I thought as much. I've upgrade many times on Firefox, and it still never resolves itself. No idea what could be causing it. I guess I'll just have live with using IE for any XC bookings then!

I get exactly the same thing of recent. Actually since upgrading to Firefox 4 for Mac. Whenever i have tried to buy through a trainline based booking system, notably SWT, Virgin or XC after the additional security password, the order page has reverted to the initial search page.

I have just started booking tickets with Safari no worries!

But tonight i have now been given Firefox 5...released on the 21st June. I shall think of somewhere i want to book an advanced fare too and see does it work.

Failing that, I am with the OP to whether anyone knows if the Firefox settings can be changed to aviod this.

Are you using AdBlock or NoScript or similar? I think the security box uses Javascript. I find it's better to unblock purchase sites like these to avoid transmission delays, since doing that I have never had a problem with Firefox (currently 4.0.1).

This sounds just like a problem I've had on FGW's site. After a bit of trial and error it turned out to be a problem with cookies. You have to make sure third party cookies are being accepted, which you can do by going to Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Use Custom Settings and make sure both the accept cookies boxes are ticked. Worked for me, hope it helps you!

Just had a look at that David, but it appears my browser was already set up to allow 3rd party cookies! There's obviously something in there causing this, but I've no idea what it is. Guess I'll just have to live with it!

never hada firefox related isssue with any such sites - sorry!

( could you try the most recent issue and see if that helps?)
