Training and Qualifications

Hello,
I used to be in the military before becoming a DD, and as part of my standard training for that, I was able to gain a Foundation Degree in "military studies". This was organised so that the standard training undertaken effectively was the coursework and exams for the qualification (kind of like a FdSc without really having to do anything special or extra for it) Does the railways have anything similar for its staff, something like "railway operations" or "rail studies" as a FdSc or Diploma style qualification? I think this would be a good idea to improve and invest in staff knowledge and retainment within the industry as a whole.

There are a few courses which are run solely for the railways, IIRC Glasgow Caledonian does one. The rest are general transport degrees for the whole industry. Of course things such as track work or mechanical/electrical can cover a lot of things through civil and mechanical engineering.
