Apologies if it came across that I was asking for confidential information to be expressed on a public forum, I assumed that the negotiations where already in the public domain, i stand corrected.

Unfortunately I suspect that I wont actually get to speak to another ( qualified ) GTR driver for at least a year or more , all my training will be done by Southeastern.

I assume that my pay slip will eventually show any difference in salary, although that isnt my main concern, more the roster workings.

As far as I'm aware the trainees won't receive the pay rise until they qualify

Out of interest, what is the pay deal being offered ? I am 1 month into my training , employed by GTR for Gillingham Depot , but am doing my Rules , traction and DI training with SouthEastern. So haven't heard anything about the current pay deal negotiations.

Where about are you doing your training - are there no TL drivers around?

Why not?
As it is in the 'negotiation stage' then all talk is hearsay and conjecture.
When the pay deal is finalised then it will be publicly available any way.
So what exactly, is wrong for asking?

Er.... no it's not!

Definition:-

a person who informs on a person or organization regarded as engaging in an unlawful or immoral activity.

It is talking about something that will happen but only those in the know will actually know the detail.
As I said before, any detail given on this forum is hearsay and mess room rumour and there is no harm talking about it except, most of it is gossip!

You will be out and about on the network during the front ending weeks, is it week 6 you go out fot 3 weeks following a driver around.

Would I have to have already started to avoid working more sundays ?

I'm about to start my training next month.

How many more sundays ? I was looking forward to working them as overtime.

Is that for all parts of the franchise ? Or Southern or TL or GN specifically ?

TL/GN only. 12 a year as opposed to 8 for current staff.
It's only a proposal so will have to wait and see what comes of it.
If you've signed your contract already then you should only have to do 8 if it comes in but I can't say for sure.
Just bare in mind it will still be extra pay as they will still be classed as outside the working week. So basically you'd be working 5 days instead of 4 on them weeks

That is how the GTR boys and girls at cannon street training centre are ,
We wont get our first front end turn with a DI until week 13 , after rules and traction are completed , then it will be with a Southeastern DI . We wont get to meet other GTR qualified drivers until we have our keys... and move to our home depot , and then we will start route learning with GTR/TL .

To be honest I would prefer not to work Sundays ( as I suspect most people feel about them ) as I have a young family , but it is what it is and I will obviously do as I have to do. But from memory my contract stated that they where outside..

Yeah they are outside but as part of this new deal you'll have to commit to 8 a year or 12 if you're a new starter.
If you can cover them yourselves then you can but if not you'll have to work them

Ah well. It was dumbed down to me by m'lady friend that it's one sunday a month. Still better than my TOC at the moment.

So If I got someone to cover me, will I have to do a day back for them?

With all due respect Westcoaster, I'm sure your knowledge of GTR's training structure is correct, but as VWcampervanman has said some of us are training with Southeastern and are therefore not being trained by the GTR schedule.

Southeastern do not do front end turns during training with the same frequency as it sounds GTR do. When we do go out, we are with Southeastern drivers. We are in all respects honorary Southeastern members, uniform and all.

So we are extremley unlikely to meet any current GTR drivers until we have completed our driving hours.

Thats definitely how the GTR trainees being trained by GTR are scheduled , Although Im employed by GTR my training is being done exclusively by Southeastern, There training is much different in scheduling . I am in week five and have already passed PTS , and assessments 1 & 2 , assessment 3 is week 6 and so on, I will have taken all 5 assessments and be passed in rules and traction before I get a front end turn , then it will be with a Southeastern driver . Until I am fully qualified I am effectively a Southeastern employee,( but paid and contracted to GTR ) before going to my home Depot ( Gillingham ) where my route learning will begin .


Its pretty intense training, but very interesting and professional.

Here in Orpington, usually there is 8 people per class, Ours was only 6 because 2 couldn't make the particular intake . I think that they like to limit the size of the class to 8 , there are 4 simulators available at Orpington, quite often a simulator run takes approximately 1 hour ( dependant on scenario ) So if it was necessary to run 3 x sessions then the time required becomes a limiting factor. Im not sure how many simulators are available at Ashford.

The courses are generally capped at 8. This is because the trainers can only have up to 4 trainees with them when they go on units out in the yard. With 8 trainees you therefore only need 2 trainers, any more and it probably becomes a pain to source a 3rd.

Congratulations. Were you told you would.be interviewed in Ashford? Because although I've applied for Ashford my interview was at Blackfrias.

Had some good news as well today, I have all ready passed all exams and interviews for thameslink working out of Ashford so was told when my medical date was 1st June and a start date 17th July.

So not much longer to go, am on holiday from tomorrow till 30th may lol.
