Hi all

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for the information posted in this forum, it's helped me pass all my tests and my mmi interview

Just wanted to know what to expect, does anyone have any experience with them?

What sort of questions do they ask? Would i get an answer on the day etc if I passed interview, also when would the medical be if I passed etc.

Many thanks for any information you have for me :)

I had DMI in 2015, but not at Bristol. I was given a mechanical comprehension test when I arrived. It was a list of typical maths and mechanical problems that were similar to a version I saw during the online application process. It was printed out and you put answers on the paper, it was not referred to again during the interview, perhaps it was a time filler until they were ready.

The interview was quite pleasant, with two managers. I had to give a 5 mins presentation about something of my choice, having been given prior notice. The line of questioning centred around my understanding of the railway rules and procedures. It was my second DMI but I’m not from a railway background. I don’t think I was able to answer as well as I hoped. Things like the rule book came up and how to deal with an emergency like a derailment- who would I contact and what information would I give them? Knowledge about their company, fleet and locations is helpful. They questioned me about the company.

It took them 2 years to reveal the outcome of the interview!! It was just as G&W took them over and coal traffic was in sudden decline.

Good luck on Wednesday.

@Joshua Wright I had mine in November, there was no presentation to deliver and no mechanical comprehension as stated above. Must have changed the format since 2015.

Research the company so you can give them a bit of what you know to show interest.
The rest was was mostly “give me an example of a time when....”
Very relaxed and welcoming interview.
Good luck.

I had mine back in October and it was a very relaxed affair. There was one Driver Manager and one HR person on the interview panel and it was very pleasant. As has been said, there’s literally just an interview these days. It’ll be largely competency based questioning (“give me a time when you’ve had to XYZ” sort of thing). Try and think of some safety related examples so you don’t come unstuck, but it’s quite easy going. I wasn’t offered a job with Freightliner in the end, but I can’t fault their recruitment/interview process. The DMI I had with them definitely served as good interview experience. I’ve had a few interviews over the years but that was my first DMI. No different to any other competency based interview and not a million miles away from the type of interview the MMI is.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the info, feeling a bit more confident , so what I believe it is gonna be, is very similar to the mmi, just more detail and from what I know must use the star format

@Stigy @crebbs1 how long after the interview did you get the result, did they tell you on the day etc,

I heard a day (possibly 2?) later that I was successful and would be placed in the pool. Then a couple of months after that I was offered a job.
