To anyone not qualified going to an assessment day. My advice would be go and enjoy the day, contribute and be yourself.

Judging how their profile was only set up yesterday, my guess is it's a different user who just needed to vent some frustration

"Go and enjoy the day" is probably the best advice I've seen on here. Although getting a job is a serious matter, I do think some people on here look into things to much. If you take a more relaxed approach your less likely to get brain freeze during assessments, less likely to come across as nervous in an interview, and ultimately you won't be so down beat if your unsuccessful.

I am a qualified driver....i was at assessment 29th nov....i recieved an email on thursday 29th dec...saying not taking application any further...ive heard a few have had same email that went on same day in york....good luck to all remaining.

Never a good plan to turn up for an interview thinking that you are "overqualified"!!
Whatever the position.
Much has been said elsewhere about some older drivers not knowing how to approach selection events. A case in point perhaps?

Not the case mate, I'm at a freight depot in Yorkshire, 2 of our lads have been offered jobs, ones been driving about 18 months & the other about 3 years, they do have a fair bit of ECML route knowledge including diversions but not the whole route.

Yes there are 2 drivers based at Stourton container depot Freightliner that have got the jobs I am told.
One is apparently tied into a contract though.

if its a very even distribution of new drivers across the country there is only 5-6 people from each assessement slot will end up with a job.

Which qualifications? And I assume you mean 'possess'?

I assume you would love a job on the railway given how many related threads you post in, but the majority of these posts are so negative.

You either need to believe in yourself more, or if you lack certain qualifications, be more pro-active in trying to gain them.

Qualification wise you just need the basic GCSE's

Driving a train is relatively easy, its mainly the amount of time you have to spend concentrating, which after a few hours in the seat can start to drain your will if your not the right kind of person

Wouldn't say its qualifications you need as such, but more experience. If you sit at home all day playing on the X-Box your'e unlikely to gain this experience. If you don't feel like your job gives you such experience, maybe start to look at volunteering opportunities you can do in your free time to give you experience.

Those 800 class trains are so easy to drive.
Push buttons to start. Computer to see what's happening in the train.
A stick that you push forward to brake and pull back to accelerate.

I went to the afternoon one. Also quite enjoyed it. Genuinely curious whether I did enough - other than one silent bloke and an enthusiastic but inarticulate monopoliser, my groups lacked obvious stereotypes.

I wouldn't dwell on it too much mate, it's done know and in reality who knows what they are looking for!

In case it wasn't brought up in anyone's Q&A session, First course starts on the 26th of this month with one course starting each month up to end of the year if I remember correctly.
