Trainee train driver. Pleeease help

Hello guys, I am new hear and I would like ask for some help if I may.

I have my test for a trainee driver test position next week.

My email states that this is the first stage and will include

Two concentration tests, a fault finding test and situational judgement test, all lasting 3 hours. Does this sound right for the first stage?

lastly, please could I have some advise on the group bourdon test.

I set the time to 1 minute because in the revision booklet I was given they said to spend a minute on each page. Here are the results from second try

You can print off sheets for practising the GB test. I found this helpful as there is a difference in doing it on paper v on the computer. (Highlight the box for 'show answers' to make checking your accuracy very quick/easy)

Yes.

Allow yourself two minutes per sheet, print the answers and allow 5 sheets per test.

Do it on paper and this won't be far off the real thing.

Yes, it does.

If you play around with it, you can view the pages and the omitted ones will have a Red box around them (if memory serves me correctly).

Not meaning to spook you, but you need to aiming for around 1100 - 1200 cells marked, with no errors and no omitted for a high pass.

And yes omitted means you have missed them.

Its been a while since I did this but from memory, It's much better to print 5 sheets out and work through them 2 minutes at a time as this is what you will do in the actual test, you need to be getting at least half way down the paper on each sheet.

Not necessarily. The assessor will ask for accuracy and consistency and that is what you need to do. If you aim for 1200 and do that on the first 3 pages and then only 900 on the last 2 you will fail as you are not consistent. I have seen passes with only 7 lines per page on all pages with no omissions pass and I have seen 12 lines on each page at the same sitting with one omission/error fail.

It's up to you what you do but it is a lot better to do less perfectly that rush and make an error or can't keep the pace for the duration.

It was the scores I was aiming for and getting about 3 years ago, I got to at least halfway on each sheet in the actual test and it did me rather well.

The numbers I aimed for actually came from The Group Bourdon Tool thread on here, I was just stating what I did that worked.

Did this test 2 weeks ago, and you only get 1 minute per sheet in the test

I stand corrected, They have changed that then since I did it, you used to get 2 mins per sheet making it a 10 minute test.

In my opinion as well, the groups of dots in the actual test were smaller than the practise material that the TOC sent me, so that's something else to bear in mind.

lroyal, you really need to get into the mind set of using your own initiative. You have already been told of a sticky post on this forum all about the GB test and still have not accessed it. All the info is on this thread that you need for the tests.

As a train driver you will need to use your own initiative for the job and also for the tests so if I were you I would practice this quality that you need rather than worrying about the GB test at this stage. Try to get this on board as if an interviewer even sniffs that you lack self initiative you will struggle

Sorry to sound blunt but we can't hand feed you the information if you are not willing to use your own initiative in the out set.

Hey, try to make the time, if you can't the job isn't important enough to you. You need to remember that there are over 500 applicants for each position. Good luck and research the company you have applied for, the routes, passengers carried etc. and also the name of the MD
