Got my interview next week. Speaking with some friends who have got an interview as well, we have all already passed psychometric testing etc with different toc/foc - has anybody got an interview who hasn't done any tests yet?

Guys who have failed to get an interview - don't know your circumstances, but I found that being a volunteer for mountain rescue / lifeguard / police specials etc gave an edge on application and evidence of competency ( I didn't do all 3 but know successful candidates who did one or the other) perhaps you need to start fresh and start again with a 2 year plan to Completley change all the answers you are giving, to answers based on newly learnt skills and experience - thats what I did.

Anybody any tips for this interview? Kind of nervous now....

I have got to two DMI'S previously with my (similar) answers that I provided and have already passed both stages of the Psychometric testing so not sure what it was that Northern didn't like. I was bang on the hour for travelling, not sure if that had anything to do with it, probably not. I am waiting on something at the minute with another TOC so this is not all bad news.

Does anyone who had an interview last week know when Northern will be letting people know if they've made it to the next stage?

Interesting, I didn't realise people had heard back from this, I applied too but never heard anything.

I log into the system once a week as any correspondence is put up there as well, so if I missed an email I'd still be aware of any updates but there isn't any. Just double checked, still just the original email asking candidates to be patient.

I didn't really expect to get through so it's not a massive setback, but Northern have up to this point always been good for communication up to press with me. Even though it's been a couple of months I don't generally get concerned when things take longer than said, so I'd just assumed everyone was waiting :/

Just found out, sadly not this time. Does anyone know if it helps to be employed within the company before applying? Perhaps I will need to apply for another role before re-applying.

Also on a slightly different note, if the train driver tests are taken privately will they be accepted and how long are they valid for?

This thread is surprisingly quiet. Was anyone here successful at the interview? If so, have you been invited to assessments or heard anything else since confirmation of passing the interview?

I passed the interview but have not received any other contact since. I have already taken all assessments with another TOC.

Just applied for Leeds. I was really torn about whether to recycle my (successful) 2014 application form, or not. In the end I decided I should (if it ain't broke don't fix). But it did make me wonder, has anyone ever done this and failed to get an interview with the same answers the second time? Anyone got any experience of the second time application (second time due to failed assessments 1st time)?
Anyways, good luck to all applying. Hope to see some of you at the depot months down the line!

Just had an email this morning saying I wasn't successful for Manchester - from February vacancy.
I got to assessments in 2014 but failed on Group Bourdon as was very new to the whole process then.
I assumed (maybe wrongly) that because my application was successful last time, if I used the same/similar details as last time but updated it with my current/new since last time job details, then it would at least get me an interview. But I didn't, so not sure what to make of it tbh

Good luck - hope you're successful at reaching the interview stage. Did you apply for the December 2015 or Feb 2014 before now?

Thanks! I actually applied for a role up in Newcastle last year. Had the interviews and was sent to the assessment day down in Doncaster, which I passed. Unfortunately received a rejection letter.

Hoping for a better outcome this time! :D

How come you got a rejection letter? if you passed the interview and tests? Wouldn't it be straight to medical and awaiting start date at that point or did they cancel all courses?

Only 1 role was available at the time with multiple people passing as I did.

I've been told that Northern / Arriva are wanting a 'good amount' of drivers in the next few years. So hopefully we'll all be lucky and gain a place! :)

I'm guessing no one has heard anything as yet? probably far too short soon. Does anyone know what the general wait time is for updates, etc?

If it's any help - it generally takes about a month post application sift, but this is from my own experience & this is only my 3rd attempt!
