I applied for the position on the West Anglian line, Bishop Stortford depot. I was offered the position in January, but due to the impossibility of being able to give notice in my current job I had to turn it down. I even went for the medical. I was put down for the training starting in May but have recently found out that the positions at BS have been reduced and so there is no space. There is a possibility of training starting in September but no guarantee.

Does anyone know what the situation is reagrding positions at BS?

Also, if you have passed the assessments, interviews, medical etc do you have a job? Do you sit on a waiting list and they contact you if a space becomes available or is that it and you have to go through the whole process again?

Finally would anyone suggest appying for the Trainee Depot Drivers roles on the GE route as a way into mainline driving or give this a miss and hold out for the mainline driver's job.

Thanks

Can't help you with the situation at Stortford, however will try with your other questions.

It sounds like you are now on the waiting list. If the only thing stopping you starting back in May was the time you had to give notice to your current employer, then you won't have to go through it all again. Search out your correspondence with them to check, or give Joanne Check a ring (Customer Services 0845 600 7245 option 7 and ask for her number. This the only contact number I have for her as not at work right now).

As for whether it's worth waiting or applying again for the GE vacancies...diplomatically what I will say is that you will be sitting at Ilford for something like 5 years until you get a mainline job. Other depots slightly faster or hugely longer. 6 Depot Drivers recently left and went to Chingford to get out quicker. And they have said it was the best thing they have ever done. WAGN is the route I would recommend if a) It's local to you b) You want to get out quickly and c) You don't want to be a Depot Driver in your 60s!! That said, I work on GE side and am happy to sit here as it's FAR better than working in the Real World. Just wish I had a few more ackers...

Sorry, can't help. There are so many contradictory rumours doing the rounds about the depot establishment at BIS that it's hard to work out the truth from the fiction. A tame DM told me that the numbers were set to increase and yet a different source says that the overall numbers are currently too high already.

The best thing to do is to try and ask HR.

I had a letter arrive today from NXEA, I was unsuccessful. Although not all bad, on Friday I was told by my company they will pay for me to study my Engineering Degree.
