Train Driver - Chester
Starting salary: £28,488 increasing significantly when fully qualified

As a representative for Transport for Wales Rail Services, you will embark on their mission to 'Keep Wales Moving' by putting people at the heart of the service you provide. It means you'll need to work a variety of shifts, work unsociable hours and live within an hour's travel of the depot you apply to.

* Prepare, drive and dispose of traction units safely, using the prescribed technique you'll become accustomed to following the comprehensive training programme.
* Comply with nationally agreed rules and regulations and operational instructions
* Respond to out of course situations as they arise and carry out emergency procedures in accordance with rules and regulations
* Comply with the 'Drivers' Safety Responsibility Statement
* Complete reports (written or verbal) and attend interviews as required
* Undertake further training as required

* The ability to competently drive Transport for Wales trains in a safe and punctual manner

Other essential requirements before you proceed with your application:
* You must be 21 or over for legal purposes (applications will be accepted from candidates who are 20 years old, however you will not be able to commence shift work until you turn 21)
* You must live within an hour of Chester train station
* There are certain conditions that restrict individuals from becoming a train driver and you will therefore need to go through a medical as part of the application process.

Once offered a start date, we will book you a medical appointment and begin a basic background check and reference checks. Please note that any offers of employment are subject to satisfactory medical and background checks and a satisfactory 6 month probation period.
Training:
A train driver's role is highly skilled and full extensive professional training will be given to new drivers. Our training programme is 34 weeks long, and during this time you will learn all the theory of train driving, drive our train simulators to familiarise yourself with train driving, and then spend approximately 26 weeks as a trainee driver accompanied by an experienced train driving instructor. Once completed, you will be fully assessed in all aspects of the drivers' role by one of our Driver Team Managers.
