Only issue is that if you fail any of the tests with another train company it can invalidate the ones you've passed with Nexus

Apply for jobs and if you get to the testing stage, ask them if they accept your current results. If they say no, then you can either go for it or politely decline and withdraw your application.

Those who are waiting dont put all ypur eggs into one basket so to speak. Northern are currently advertising for Trainee Drivers both Newcastle and Darlington. Assessments will be valid also. Dont wait for something that may not come off so keep applying.

I would think we'd get an update either way soon as its almost been a year since the email saying nothing for 12 months

I've asked for updates throughout the year and pretty much had the same response that there are no plans for schools at the moment. My most recent email was near the start of this month.
I didn't see the point tbh. I've just been waiting to see if anyone posts here to say they've been contacted and then regularly checking my own emails for anything from nexus. It'll happen when it happens and if it doesn't it doesn't.

Dunno if people in talent pool were aware but I know LNER, Northern and Crosscountry all had adverts out recently. Something to bear in mind whilst waiting. Having the psychometric passes should stand people in good stead.

That's a good point as we can apply for them and so can the current drivers.
I think if someone has passed psychometrics and is in a talent pool it's generally accepted that you should be applying for anything and everything in your area! Talent pool's often result in a job offer but not definitely - I think even metro would be expecting you to be applying elsewhere in the meantime (not that they'd tell you that.....)
Don't forget depending on the TOC psychometric passes can be considered valid from anywhere between 18 months and 5 years!!

Some lad on the first round of tests, unsure if passed or not had already passed with another company and was warned by rhe lady doing the tests that his previous pass would be overruled by the tests with metro. I assumed most companies would want to do own tests.

As far as I’m aware different companies have different procedures. I know metro would require you to take the tests again if they ran another complete intake. However, I think most companies are in between 2-5years.
For some reason Metro insist you retake the psychometrics even if they are valid. I'm not saying they're the only one's to make you do this but I'm not aware of anywhere else that does (unless the pass date is beyond the 18 month to 5 year validation period; depending on the TOC).

Emailed today to ask if there was any update. Response given was there is no new updates and that there is no courses in the near future.

I wonder if they are still at full capacity for drivers. At this rate, it will be over a year since the last school started. I have seen Nexus advertise for a lot of jobs recently so looks like the ball is rolling for the new fleet, hopefully that is a good sign for us but just speculation.

They'll be at full capacity considering the run down fleet they have. Once all the new trains have been delivered and all current staff trained thats when i reckon we'll hear something. 12 to 18 months. They are behind schedule also so thats not helping. I think previous recruits have waited at least 12 months in the past without having this new fleet to contend with.

I think there was x4 courses of 8 people that have been threw off this intake.
The recent intake was to cover the driver shortage and to allow cover for when the driver training starts on the new fleet. Think once the training starts could be atleast 12 drivers unavailable throughout the full training process and that’s why the extra drivers were taken on. Once the training is finished there’s potential for too many drivers. Obviously a lot can change with people leaving/retiring etc.
personal opinion is once the driver training starts for new fleet all focus will be on delivering that.

With the delay in the new fleet and the train driver numbers being at full capacity ( maybe even more) does anyone think they will have a school this year?
