Trainee Operations Controller....eeek

Hope all are well.

I have an assessment coming up in the next week or so down South East area. I am awaiting test papers shortly.

I was wondering if any one had some top tips and advice for me and any one else who reads this.

I was wondering what tests there are and what they are like?

On top of this if any one has done it recently and got to interview can they remember what type of questions they asked?

I am currently an RPO. In terms of operations experience no would be my answer.

You probably best wait for the test papers, as the last time I saw some, they were more relevant to LUL Control than a TOC!
I've interviewed for Controllers in the past, and the normal line of questioning includes geographical knowledge and diversionary routes. Types of stock and scenarios when something goes wrong.

What exactly does the role of controller entail ?

I've heard most recruitment for these positions are internal - how much experience with someone like northern would you require before being able to successfully apply for these positions ?

Types of stock is an interesting and useful idea as well as diversionary route and geographical knowledge. Why would geographical knowledge be used in interviews? Wasn't used in my previous interview as RPO (and you need to know as whether tickets are valid or not etc).

When something goes is standard questions I agree totally.

this particular role was a trainee role. So just common sense really.

Operations Controllers are normally internal to the industry.
When a person, whether it is a driver or station supervisor etc phones up with a question, they expect an authoritive answer, not someone umming and erring, unless they say straight out 'I don't know, I'll find out and come back!'.
