Qualified drivers showed no interest,Internals have been and failed that's why it's gone external.

That's not surprising considering many have left for Passenger work

If you are not sure wait for what is right for you. Freight is certainly not right for me and I travelled 75 miles each day each way instead of 20 miles so I could stay on passenger work.

Leeds (intermodal) rumoured to be recruiting very soon too - less money, cleaner work and less weekends.

I'm pretty sure that the freight companies don't get any travel perks at all-may be wrong but I'm fairly certain only passenger operators get priv cards and other travel facilities.

You normally get a car or van which is why they ask for a clean driving licence normally.

No travel perks for freight I'm afraid but you do get plenty of time off

Not quite, they often allocate a van to a job to get you back so a diagram may be (for example for a dagenham driver) drive van to hoo junction, park it, pass to Finsbury park. Relieve and work train from Finsbury park to hoo junction, drive van back.

I think A-Driver is right. Working for a FOC you don't get any ATOC privileges. That's why I don't think I would transfer to a FOC in the future as I save a lot of money with my priv rate card.

I wouldn't be too sure - last time I checked FLiM were one of the lowest paying FOC's offering considerably less than GbRf or indeed FLhh.

They pay less than most toc's, most weekends off is the appeal although they do lots of nights

Yes mate even if I was unemployed. I have too many ties and commitments to relocate for a job, whatever the job is. I don't mind commuting, I can only see two motives for relocating...Money and desperation to do a certain job and none motivate me.
I will apply for trainee driver jobs or other roles within my geographical area (45mins) but am not that desperate that I would relocate.

Is this still Freightliner? Sorry I dont know what Intermodal is? Very interested in anything out of Leeds, especially if less weekends

intermodal refers to freight stock an example being those huge metal containers. one was used in a lethal weapon movie where Mel Gibson and his partner drove the car out in auto along with a shed load of drug money.

an afterthought they can be carried by road, rail, air or sea without unloading the contents hence inter modal.

There are now some intermodal men earning more than heavy haul drivers. Less taxing work, no pulling points, coupling up, fueling, greased up to the eyeballs. Terms and conditions far better than HH,they got money even for signing on for a shift,paid rest days. Basically your just a driver at intermodal,few have left HH and gone to intermodal generally because of the shifts, your less fatigued with your work.

They can still use a mechanical test as part of the company selection process after August.

This type of work requires mechanical comprehension, much more so than sitting on a modern unit, where a computer does everything for you.

No passengers, most weekends off, no passengers, fairly fixed roster, no passengers, no silly phone calls at 0330 saying "your working at 0500 today", no passengers, fixed timetables so you dont get shoved out the way for 3 hours because a signal wire broke, oh and did I mention no passengers.

I know of a few down Pompey way that are looking at Intermodal but wont consider HH despite the higher pay.
