It's a hangover from when Carlisle depot was a different franchise from the one that operated the Cumbrian coast. Depots at Workington and Barrow work the coast, and are part of the West side of Northern. Carlisle is an East depot (despite it's physical location). It's the same reason Sheffield crews dont work any of the local services from there to Manchester.

Very interested in applying for this but notice the job description says you must live within 45 mins of the station. I live in Hexham which on google maps is 52 mins away. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is any flexibility with the travel distance since it’s only an extra 7 mins?

I'm fairly certain that it's a hard no on that one. The application used to have a YES/NO tick box for whether you lived within the 45 minutes. There was no option for "No but it's only 52". Applications were automatically binned if you said no. Your best bet is probably to wait for Newcastle vacancies again.

Fair enough I did suspect that may be the case. I’ll keep an eye out for any vacancies nearer to home. Thanks for the reply.
