Trainee drivers at DB schenker

Nope it said 4th of feb was when you would here if you've been successful! That is definitely what was stated on the listing.The assessments were next then it was a medical and then managers interview!

best keep an eye on emails then , only a week. :roll:

They've definitely started interviewing Internal staff and External Qualified Drivers. I suppose shortlists will then be made from the requirements of the outstandsing vacancies.

I doubt there will be enough external Qualified Drivers interested to begin with going off the comments on here about DB Schenker! There probably also won't be enough suitable Internals interested to fill all the vacancies either.

Seeing a lot of opinions on DBS here, does anyone actually work for DBS? I've applied for both positions and have a interview date I spoke with a production manager so I'm thinking it could be the operator role I'm being interviewed for although I'm hoping it will be trainee driver......

If anybody works for DRS, I wanted to know what they look for at the interview stage? And also what are they like to work for? How do the T&C's compare to other TOC's.....

The closing date for internal applicants was not until today, although the advert did say this may be changed if the was a 'higher than expected' number of internal applicants.

Like all freight companies the main difference between DB Schenker's conditions and the TOC's is the shifts.
They can start at any time between 0001 and 2359 and can be up to 12 hours in length.
You can be on nights one week then extreme early's the next.

For this reason alone, is why I am not interested in leaving my job for this.

Not specific to DRS or DBS, on the plus side you do get plenty of time off or overtime if you wan't it.

Shifts aren't too bad once you get into the swing of it.

Its 35 hours a week which is alot better terms and conditions than most jobs, done shift work for the past 15 years, so not really an issue for me.

Just had an email from DBS, and decisions on external candidates has not been decided yet, so everyone hang in there, I know we are all in competition with each other but I would like to wish everyone of you the best of British on this one.

DB Schenker will force repayment of all training costs for any employee that leaves within 3 years AFTER training!

You pay £52,000.00 to DB if you leave during training or within 1 year after passing out! You could have been in DB for up to 3 years by this point.

You pay £34,000.00 to DB if you leave during year 2 after passing out.

You pay £17,500.00 to DB if you leave during year 3 after passing out. You could have been with DB for 4-5 years by this point.

You pay back £0.00 if you leave DB during any later than the above.

Now what if you fail your training and are booted off the course? DB fine you £52k as well as giving you the sack? Where do you start paying that off when unemployed??

Similiarly if you join DB and find you can't hack the job, whether its the shifts or the driving, you have to stick it out for potentially 5 years (2 years training + 3 years post qualifying) or find you're going to have to pay back £52k, £34k or £17k.

One thing for sure, anyone going for these jobs has to be 100% SURE that this is the job for them. Its certainly not one you can just walk out of if you decide you don't like it. Not unless you can afford to waste £52k.

However I'd like to see DB try and get £52k off someone. It must be difficult, even if they take you to court. Especially if you don't have that amount of money, how can they get it off you, take your house off you?

That's a bit of an exaggeration. This 'training payback' thing keeps coming up on this forum. It is written down on paper by many TOCs and FOCs but it is near impossible for them to enforce. For a start, few courts will back a company over an individual for this kind if thing, regardless of contracts. European law, the legality of specific contracts (which can't be negotiated) etc often backs up the employee and if they fine you 52k and you offer to pay back what you can afford in instalments then they have to accept-so £1 a week it is then.

Obviously they are investing in you but they can't actually force you to stay or pay back the training costs.

Like I said in an earlier post (but got shot down for saying it), there are drivers who work in TOC's who only sign like 2 routes and are really bored and would not hesitate to go to DB Schenker. It looks like it has happened.

At least the vacancies were nationwide so the company will not be taking qualified drivers from just one TOC, keep your eye on the TOC companies websites.

I feel sorry to all them external candidates that applied just filling in any application form, it must take at least 2 hours these days and then you probably question yourself on the answers.

No necessarily, 61 places will be filled with many qualifieds and internals

I was led to believe that when a company advertises jobs they have to put an external advertisment out if the numbers are over a certain number. It is political thing I think because if you take internals, qualified drivers etc this in turn will not reduce the unemployment figures!

I actually was one of those unfortunate people who filled out the application for DBS, actually hand written as well and agree it does take some time. Ive applied for Northern Rail as they were recruiting for drivers in blackpool and its a blessing as would much prefer to driver passenger trains, only at the sifting stage but no news is bad news

You live and learn, trouble for me was dbs has 2 depots right on my doorstep, and I've already paid them the money for my private assessment,!! Just keep looking in the job adverts .

Thats the problem with doing assessments privately if you don't get a offer within the 2 years you have paid money for nothing.
