My advice would be keep it concise,truthfull and simple,if you are suitable you will hear back.
For instance the question which read why do you want to join our company as a trainee driver??? my answer was simple..........career change!

That's fine but the question asks Why do want to join OUR company and your 2 word answer would not be a sufficient answer, sorry!

I agree, I would answer that question by naming some of the company's achievements and describing my qualities with respect to the type of driver they are looking for as per the job description.

cant remember the exact wording,it may of even been why have you applied for this job.
Just goes to show that you can give some rubbish answers on some parts but as long as overall you seem suitable then may hear back from them.
Was just giving the op some info on what I did that's all.

In my manager interview that was probably the toughest question to answer... You have to big up the Company enough to show you've actually researched them, but not too much that you look like a blatant brown nose.

Lol... Just be polite and state you like them for x, y, z. But don't make it sound like you are reading it off of their website.

You will be asked this question at interview and if you give that 2 word answer you will fail. Your advice to prospective applicants is poor advice.

Word of mouth is always the best option "I was speaking to one of your staff and they were very impressed with the way the company is run and the way the company respects their needs, so I decided that your company was the one I would like to work for" How can that be a difficult question, come on people.

If the advice I gave for how I successfully filled in an application form is then used by an applicant to give the same answer during an interview then I agree with you,they would deservedly not progress.
