Trainee Driver with Unspent Conviction

Hi

I have friend that has gotten into a talent pool with a TOC. For confidentiality they’ve asked me to bring this question forward as they don’t want it to affect their application.

They want to know if they can still be given an offer despite having an unspent conviction? Is there anyone in the role now on this forum that may have gone through something similar (given offer with unspent conviction?

Related to selling drugs, due to become ‘spent’ this year and offence was many years ago. This has all been disclosed to the TOC and they’ve still put them forward into the talent pool. It was also discussed during DMI and went well.

The question about convictions would have been on the application form.

All train drivers go through basic DBS checks during onboarding which an unspent conviction would show up on.

Provided your friend was truthful in the application stage and ticked yes as it seems they were then a conviction in of itself shouldn’t be an issue. Would then boil down to what it is. I can only give my opinion but drugs and train driving isn’t usually a good mix.

The finial decision will come down to the recruitment admin after a job offers been given and any company policy

If they have been placed in a talent pool I assume they've passed all assessments and interviews.
If it was disclosed then the very fact they're in the talent pool means that the Company are happy with the conviction.

All they can do is be honest about it and see where it goes.

I don't remember completing DBS check paperwork when I started my driver job

I have recently been given a potential start date based on completion of pre-placement checks.

One of which was ‘A satisfactory UK criminality check’. I have copied that from the email.

The only people who can answer this question would be the recruitment team. I imagine it is assessed on a case by case basis the same as the medical.

This isn't correct, drugs offences are spent in the same way as almost every other crimes, based on the sentence given.
