Trainee Driver Vacancy - Thameslink

Never heard from them again after they said I needed a further risk assessment. Was told a manager needed to arrange it the nothing. Sent numerous e-mails and called the HR team a number of times. Always got the same lady who would always pass on the same message and would never get a call back.



Had a feeling I was going to be messed around at the start of the year so put in an application with Crossrail. Signed my contract with them last week for a start in January.



So all worked out well in the end!

Congratulations, but wasn't Ashford depot near to you, meaning that the Crossrail dept will be a considerable distance away?

I live in Sidcup. So Ashford wouldn't have been too bad - a 30 minute drive down the A20. The Crossrail depot at Plumstead is about 15 minutes away, probably less on early starts.

Hi all

How long before you started training did you receive your contracts? Been given a start date of 1st November on the phone so am hoping it comes through quite soon. Also did you have it emailed or sent in the post?

Yeah I had about 3 weeks before I received my contract from my start date. In this time they are mainly.doung reference checks rec. Good luck with the new job, what depot are you going to?

They haven't asked for any reference details yet so maybe that's coming up. Going to be at Ashford depot. Just itching to get the contract through and then it'll all seem real then.

Yeah I waited till I actually had the contract before getting to excited. Yeah training is going well, we are doing a new program called dlp so will be interesting if you are doing this or not. I will be based at ashford but training all over at the moment, just making my way to Bedford now. I live down near Maidstone.

Good to hear it's going well. I've heard about dlp, basically candidate lead and using an iPad for distance learning? I'm in Dartford at the mo but moving to Marden imminently. I did hear most of the training would delivered by southeastern trainers. Is that how it's working with you guys?

No we have only have thameslink trainers and thameslink training programs which has been good. Apparently a lot easier than how southeastern are training people. Yeah I will move down near ashford when I pass out all being well.

Good afternoon i currently work on the railways as a train cleaner. my lifetime ambition is to be a train driver but unfortunately i cannot seem to find or get myself onto a trainee course for any company from Peterborough to London. I know most of the Thameslink, Great Northern and LNER drivers are based her and travel to London to work as a driver. Any help on this would be so much appreciated to help me towards fulfilling my ambitions on a great career. Thanks in advance, Daniel taylor

If your company had internal vacancies keep an eye on those. Likewise keep an eye out on the careers websites of all companies in your area. If you apply and fail try refining your application/CV each time. It’s very competitive

Hi, I passed all the exams and interview for a trainee driver role operating out of Ashford at the end of last year, but I've been waiting for a medical and course start date ever since. I just wondered if anyone could shed any light on what the hold up is? Thanks in advance.
