Trainee Driver Pay

I’ve noted that since First Group took over South West Trains (now South Western Railway), the trainee driver pay appears to haves dropped.

It was in the region of £24,500 when SWT (Stagecoach) we’re running it, but in a recent advert for trainee drivers (now with First Group) it has apparently dropped to around £23,600

ASLEF company info however show trainee driver pay with SWR as being £25,500.

If you were checking on their recruitment site, it might be that they have listed the old salaries in error. The do this a lot with Guard/Driver salaries listed.

The figure may have included a weighting for the area the job was in. Basic is currently 24649 plus weighing.

Area weighting would make sense. It would help if they could show some consistency in the figures they quote, or simply state whether it’s with/without regional weighting etc.

SWR show the basic salary and list the regional allowance separately usually.
