Trainee driver interview with Southeastern

Hi. I have an interview in a few days for Southeastern. I talked to a driver and he suggested I should know 'main line stations'.

I believe there is a 165 managed stations and 178 served!

Does anyone know if there is particular stations I should no and what else regarding the company I need to be aware of?

The driver was right. Do you know which company is behind Southeastern? Do you know how many depots Southeastern operate, their names and location? Have you had a look at Southeastern website and in particular to their magazine? Just show them your interest, that you researched about the company.

Ive printed off the Southeastern network route map. Is a terminus where a train starts and finishes?

Is an interchange where you have a station where you can take a different route say?

Is a depot where they store trains and drivers congregate?

And there are maintenance depots too arnt there. Tom

You'd never be expected to know 165 stations. Just the main interchanges.

Also worth learning what their current projects are. Which stations are being refurbished. What new trains are coming online.

Know volume of passengers transported/Revenue generated/number of staff employed

Destroying the future of an entire traincrew grade with government backing in the hope it will get rolled out nationally, probably best not to bring that up though.

In all seriousness, stuff like major stations, staffing locations/depots and the ambitions/goals of the company along with any notable improvements that they've been recognised or credited for achieving are all good things to take in to an interview.

I'm assuming you're applying to work from a specific depot?

What stock does that depot maintain and where does the stock work (mainly)

What about the differences between Metro, "domestic" main-line services (if that's what it's called) and High Speed?

What other TOC's might use an interchange station (e.g. Southern use Hastings and Tonbridge as well as Southeastern?

What are you doing at the moment and why do you want to become a driver with Southeastern?

Hi. I failed interview unfortunately but will have another go in a year. Regards your question, its as you'll find on the forum really, tell me about the company, why do you want to be a driver. There were two interviewers that have an A4 thin booklet of questions on which they make notes as you speak. I would imagine they want to know 'you' but be enthusiastic I would say. Show them that you've made the effort. Good luck.

Thanks for that. You never know how it's going to go on the day or what the other candidates know. They are still arranging the date for mine but should be in the next few weeks. Good luck with next year and at least your assessment results are saved for the next 5 years meaning you are nearly there.

You can give it another go after 6 months with another TOC. (I think!)

I failed last year due to not understanding what the role entails.
Basically I keep putting customers first i.e help out when changing ends even though i' might' be late. They told me they have station staff for that so direct then to one. They absolutely big on time as late service cost is high and they've been having a field day with current drivers.
And finally they'll ask you have you use our service and how did you find it, Do Not say any negative thing, lyrical wax them and always put the job (safety) and company ( no late service) first.

So did you pass the first Multi Modul Interview okay as part of assessment two? I'm assuming you did and were waiting on the final Manager interview?
If you did then those results have been saved and last 5 years or 2 years with some strict TOC's. You could re apply to any straight away if that is the case.
