Awesome. Thanks for that. As soon as they fix their website I'll be able to finish my application lol.

Got some weird error code mid way and unable to continue.

I didn't get through the DMI with Thameslink in July, now Southern are asking for trainee drivers can I apply for this job or do I have to wait 6 months, I thought it was only Thameslink I couldn't apply for but a friend has said that I can't apply for Southern as they are the same company, this seems a little unfair as they are different operators. Can anyone clarify if this is correct.

I think your friend is correct as when you intend to apply, there are some preliminary questions asking if you've applied for any driving role with GTR (as a whole) before within the last 6 months and if you've been unsuccessful at any stage. You don't necessarily have to submit your application, but log in to your account and have a look at the questions, it might shed some light.

Unfortunately for you, your friend is indeed correct. All the best.

Would failing at final interview for Night Tube driver count as a failure with past 6 months? As far as I remember mainline TOCs don't care about LU driver tests & such, but i'm not sure.

Website is also crashing for me. I'm getting this helpful error. :)

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'D:\RALogs\KrakenLive_GTRailwayCareers\error.txt'. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath, Boolean checkHost) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize) at System.IO.File.Create(String path, Int32 bufferSize) at Netsite.RecruitActive.DataAccessLayer.Lib.LogException(SqlException ex, String query, String filename

I believe that LU is totally separate from the mainline in terms of assessments so regardless of what happened with them you should still be able to apply.

I've been able to get past the yes/no questions. But get the same error when submitting a page.

Well thats mine submitted. Website was very very slow though, 2-3 minutes loading each page. Struggles on the values question, but I always do.

Best of luck to everyone applying!!

Any chance of why you are saying this?

Mine submitted, all appears working now. Fingers crossed :D

I'm just guessing. I think Aivilo was referring to the fact that Southern's management sucks. If you read the papers or heard the news you should have realised that Southern is in a bit of a mess at present: Strikes, continual cancellation of trains, conductors in limbo, etc.

However, desperate or not, you have to take advantage of the opportunity. So whoever applied for it IMHO did well. I would have applied but Southern is not ideal for me as to location.

Desperate was probably an incorrect term as it is an opportunity after all.

First hand experience. Speak to the staff on this rapidly sinking ship to gain gain an insight to the business and how it works.

And remember you'll be signing a contract which will tie you down for two years after the date you gain your key so plan for the long haul

To be honest some of the locations aren't ideal for me either. I live in Essex!

But I have made clear on my application that if successful I'm willing to relocate. Unless of course I somehow pass and end up London based.

When I'm setting up an account to apply for this I'm met with the following question:

"Have you previously applied for a Drivers role in the past 6 months and been unsuccessful at any stage of the recruitment process?"

Does this mean just for them, or does it include all operators? A couple of months ago I didn't get past the interview stage for Northern (talk about falling at the first hurdle!)

You didn't fall at the first hurdle, you go to interview! 90% don't!

Yes, you will have to put that down on the app.

Hi, can I ask when you would all expect to hear from this application? Is it typically days after the deadline or weeks? Do they let you know if you have been unsuccessful? This the first trainee train driver role I've applied for so have no idea about the time scale! Thanks :)

I applied on the 20th December 2015. I got an email on the 4th March 2016 inviting me to an assessment day. So a bit of a wait. Good luck.

Anytime!
Southeastern took 6 months from (closing date of) application to assessment.
SWT took less than 2 weeks from (closing date of) application!

All I can suggest is 'forget about' your application, check emails regularly and get on with your life. Hopefully you will then hear good news when you least expect it.

Reading some of the other posts on here there appears to be quite a wait for many people in terms of hearing back from HR especially at GTR. Even if successful many are left in 'talent pools' for possibly years before hearing back about medical and/or contracts. It seems like a overly long process regardless.

Most of those in the talent pool purgatory are from the Thameslink side of things. I haven't come across many on this board that had to wait for years in a talent pool as far as GTR Southern is concerned. Sure, they take a long time from application to assessment date, but I wouldn't be too concerned about talent pools.
