Trainee Driver Course

Just had an email through for trainee driver courses, has anyone went on these at all seems to be about £89 down in london(I'm based in Scotland)...They are stating that the practice material you get before going to an assessment is nothing like the real test!!!!

Anyone know if these online materials are legit or is it money making schemes??

Think this is a money making scam - I've recently done the tests and the practice material is similar to the real thing, obviously it's not identical or there wouldn't be any point
I'd suggest saving yourself £89 and all the cost and hassle of going to the big smoke

Yeah mate was a little unsure with it tbh.....Any suggestions on material I can download/purchase online????

I just want to practice for these tests as I have no idea what they look/feel like.

The group bourdon file on here doesn't work anymore unless there is anew one I haven't found

If I were you, I would apply to a TOC for a Trainee Train driver position first, and see whether you pass the online tests that most TOC seem to use these day, and if your successful you will be invited to the assessment centre.

The TOC send you the material in advance, that gives you time to practice

You can photocopy the Group Bordon paperwork and put them in a random order, and as far as I know the available Download tool still works.

Save your money, apply and get to the assessment stage, then start to practice the material

Seriously the Group Bourdon and SCAAT are about the only tests you can practice - the posted one here still works for me.
Beware that you can over practice! I'd recommend just being more aware of your surroundings and pay attention to details, an example you could use is playing "yellow car" - every time you see a yellow car acknowledge it to yourself (my 7 year old likes to play this - she thumps me every time she sees one).
You could also look for a particular item when out shopping or socialising for example fire extinguishers or revolving doors - all these techniques will help train your mind.

From what I can remember of mine when I had it, I'd brush up on a bit of knowledge of the company, what the role involves, difficulties train drivers face, have some examples of the most common 'interview' questions they ask - there's loads of info on here

For what its worth I applied for a trainee driver position during 2011 and started in September 2012. I used this very useful forum but didn't know anyone on the inside so I found the company I think you are talking about. No courses were running at the time I needed it so I bought their book for around £12 and paid for a months use of their testing suite in my opinion it was a bargain, I will never know if I would have passed without it. I think the book might not be available anymore it might be an online thing now. Personally spending a few quid on helping to securing a career that depending on your age could be worth as much as a small lottery win looks like a no brainer. Make your own choice but I can promise you they won't fail you because you know too much !

So, is this actually a course that you attend and sit the tests in person, or is it online practice material?

I'd be wary about giving away the best part of £100 when you can research most of the test stuff on the internet.

Plus, if it is an attendance course, what does it actually mean at the end of it? As far as I'm aware, if you sit the tests with a TOC or FOC, the results regardless of pass or fail are entered onto a national database (can someone confirm that for me?). Can a third party company actually access such a database? I doubt it to be honest.

Its not as far as I know from a past post someone made some time ago anything to do with the actual tests that are logged onto the National Database, all they say they are doing is preparing you for them, so yes you will sit tests (how accurate they are compared to the "official ones" I have no idea) and I believe they have something similar to the structured interview, but as far as I am aware and I could be wrong, they are not official tests at all, just preparation for the real thing
