Trainee Conductor

Hi,

Want to change career and have wanted to be a conductor for some time.

Seen a job advert and it states that the applicant must live within 30 mins travel time of the chosen depot.

Can anyone confirm if this means you have be able to get to the depot by any means of travel other than train. I ask because I don't drive.

Yes other than train as most your shifts will start and finish before and after the trains are running. The question I believe is 'do you live within 30 mins of your depot' - but doesn't specifically ask if you drive and can make that journey without difficulty. See what AA route planner says - then worry about getting to work if you get the job by buying a bike/learning to ride/relocating etc

Normally, if you make it to interview you will be asked if you drive, or how you plan on getting in to work. Bear in mind, at most depots you may well need to be at the depot before the first train arrives, or leave after the last train departs, so you can't rely on being able to get to work on the train, you need to have an alternative.

You're not screwed. You can ride mopeds on provisional licences, there's always a push bike, a lift with a colleague, or simply passing your test.

If you live within the distance, apply, and worry about it when you get the interview.

Good decision mate, to good an opportunity to turn down.

Doesn't take long to pass your cbt (motorcycle training), once you get started, if you are successful, you can then work on passing your test.

As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day and if you really want something in life sometimes you have to work hard to achieve it.
