trainee conductor role

Hi,

I have found this forum which is great and hope you guys can help with a question about an application.

I have started filling in the form online for the local train company and hope to get the profile bit finished soon so I can move onto the main personal statement bit.

The only thing is I am worried about references my current employer don't do them though my boss has said I can use my appraisals he has written. Then also I don't think I will get a reference from my previous employer due to being on a warning. And I am not sure who else to put down. There is a woman who supervised some voluntary experience I did last year but I am not sure if she would - I was going to put her down then change it if I get called for interview and just say she's not available.

I have to submit the application before midnight today. I don't want to be defined by my past and know I should have sorted out who I can get for references sooner.

I would obtain written confirmation from your employer stating that they don't do references, but do get your appraisals and perhaps ask a work colleague or the manager to give you a personal reference. You can then hand these over at your interview. As for your previous employer I really wouldn't worry too much over a warning. Put them down and if they do refuse they will give you the opportunity to find another. I had a police caution and still secured a conductors job. As long as your open and honest and transparent in the first place you should be OK after all these traits are something much sought after on the railway.
