Apologies for the subject matter. I was just wondering are there still a lot of trains that would release ‘toilet matter’ onto the track? I know the newer trains have a sort of holding tank. What is the newest train that still ‘ejects’ it, so to speak?

Pretty sure nothing is left in service without a tank. At my Toc the 153s without tanks have toilets permanently locked out of use.
May be different in other areas but agreements with Network Rail seems to have seen them off.

I suspect that at least some of the Cl317s still lack CET tanks. It was only the former GN units that were fitted while the GA allocation did without. I'm unsure if this anomaly has been rectified but I suspect that part of the PRM mods for the remaining in-service units was to fit tanks, although I'm not in a position to confirm this.

The reason why the GA fleet never had CET tanks in the first place was because many stabling locations lacked the CET pump-out and disposal facilities. This has since been rectified as more and more of the fleet now needs this service.

Also around 25 non PRM 321s on GA, during the recent hot weather the east side of Liverpool St smells lovely!

Interestingly though the 701s being introduced to the SWR network will filter any waste and clean the liquid part before dumping onto the track, so PWAY could still have a shower, but of the recycled variety

Even that is getting rarer. I was down at Bo'ness recently, and the SRPS Railtours Mark 1 coaches now have retention tanks.
Somewhat surprisingly, despite the pompousness of it all, LSLs two HST rakes do not have retention tanks (I believe the Mk1s were receiving some sort of prototype fitment along with ex Mk3 CDL) while the Ex GA Mk3s do. Perhaps it only releases a better class of effluent...

The ex-GA vehicles have CET because GA/Porterbrook fitted it; nothing to do with LSL.

Oh I know that, but I'm surprised / not surprised they haven't rolled that out to the HST vehicles yet, given that they are with at least some of the Mk1s!
