Train to Waterloo

A bit of confusion here!

We have a friend from London staying with us in Devon - and she is due to return tomorrow to Waterloo using the assisted travel service.

Her return ticket indicates the time as 10.55 from Honiton on Saturday 16th August.

However looking at the National Rail website there isn’t a train at this time!

Advice appreciated!

When was the ticket booked?

SWR are operating a reduced and amended timetable on their Exeter - Yeovil - London Waterloo route.

The service is reduced to two-hourly to/from Exeter and journey times are extended as well.

The nearest amended departures to 1055 from Honiton to Waterloo tomorrow appear to be 1008, then 1203.

From SWR's website, it looks like they're having difficulties which are affecting their timetable.

"From Monday 11 August a reduced timetable will operate between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids due to temporary speed restrictions. This timetable will be in place until further notice and journey times will be longer than usual."

As a result, the scheduled 10:55 is no longer happening on the 16th. Depending on what type of ticket she has, she may be able to board either the amended timetable's 10:08 or 12:03.

Due to temporary speed restrictions between Gillingham and Axminster, an amended timetable is in place for services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids.

As of Monday 11 August, one train is running every two hours between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids. This is reduced from one train per hour, and journeys are taking approximately one hour longer than usual between Templecombe and Exeter St Davids.

Train services between London Waterloo and Yeovil Junction are also taking approximately 25 minutes longer than usual between Tisbury and Yeovil Junction.

The ticket was booked on 19th July. - Split Save.

I am assuming she can go for the 10.08 and use the same ticket - not sure how the assisted travel will work though.

Advance tickets for trains which no longer run are being accepted on trains before & afterwards. It might be worth speaking with assisted travel considering trains are passing at Honiton so will be using platform 2

Thank you that was a very helpful suggestion - I managed to get through to assisted travel, they took the name of the passenger and confirmed she could catch the 10.08.

When arriving at Honiton, the young chap in the ticket office was very organised and carried the case over the bridge and showed to her seat, I hadn’t realised the bridge was so steep!

He was running around from platform to platform helping assisted travel passengers so well done to him.

The passenger has just texted me - she thinks the train terminates at Basingstoke - so we will see what happens there!

National Rail Live shows it as cancelled from Basingstoke due to a shortage of train crew. RTT doesn't always pick up short notice cancellations so should be used with care in situations like this (despite being an excellent website in the round).

My friend has just texted - she is at Basingstoke and has been advised to wait for the next train to Waterloo.

Looks like the whole journey could be 5 hours!
