Hi.
After using BVE 4 for ages I thought I would try MSTS.Not all that impressed at the moment but then only had it a week.
What I need to know is how Train Store works.I know it makes MSTS run quicker but is it like BRR10 on Bve in as much as you can swap Locos from one consit to the other or to other routes.
Regards. Eifion.:help:

Trainstore works by moving the eng/wag files into a set of storage folders leaving only the ones you need to run your selected activity. Thus improving your loading time, as MSTS will load all of them. There is a comprehensive manual supplied with it take the time to read the installation section and you will have no problems.

To swap locos is a different matter - if the loco is picked up in an activity or is already part of the consist then you can switch cabs with the help of the BIN patch (see below) however if you want to drive a different Loco you would have to make a new consist - This can be done in activity editor - or download Conbuilder Lite [http://www.conbuilder.3dtrains.com/] which is simpler to use. {when I was new I would make a backup of the consist I was going to alter - change the loco or stock and run it with the original consist name }

MSTS uses memory on your PC badly, goto http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/eng/eng.html and download and install the BIN patch - this will improve the speed and framerates you get, as your new only d/load the latest stable version.

One important thing is to make sure you unstore everything if you alter your installation and always reinstall the latest T Sectiondat file after installing a new route - as this is totally backwards compatible with all routes - older routes will overwrite it and render any of the newer routes you install useless.

Hope this gives you a few pointers and doesn't scare you, Beginners guides and tutorials are here http://www.webdottrainsim.com/ and here http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsim/index.html

Thanks a lot Meld.
Sounds a bit daunting but I will work my way through it.Dont think I will be doing any Loco Swaps soon though.
Just one thing is not quite working as it should and that is The Train Alerter. If I tick it to work in the Options Box it works on some Locos and I cancel it but on others I will be going along and all of a sudden the brakes come on as I did not hear the aws go off to be able to cancel it.Why would I hear it in some Locos and not on others!!

Eifion your most welcom.

With regards the alerter I wouldn't know as I always have it off - cant be bothered when I forget to cancel. Now thinking about it a little more if you havent heard the aws and not cancelled the alerter it could be an Emergency brake application , Are you speeding lol.

Yet again this is a setting in the eng file for your particular loco. You can read these with any Unicode editor - I use either Context or Ultra Edit-32 - if you do decide to go down this path UE32 will make a backup of your original file so if you mess things up you can always restore the original.

Like you said it is a little daunting but read as many tutorial as you can - print them if you like. and back upany file your going to alter.

Cheers

Hi John.
Thanks for that.Dont think it was down to speeding as on one occassion I was reversing out of The Loco Shed and the limit was 5mph which I kept to as I could not see where I was going.
I have already used the conbuilder and have managed to grasp how it works, well almost.
One again Thanks for all your help Mate.
Regards. Eifion.
