I like auxing off a 377, the last thing to shut down is the cab fan, then the red DRA light goes out, and the cab is suddenly dark and quiet. Makes me think of when HAL 'dies' on 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I have fond memories of rugby station in the early 90's. Standing on the Downside platform watching those 87 beasts racing up north in glorious summer evening sunshine!

XCDriver were the 87's just as good from a drivers perspective aswell as a passengers? not the same without them gone but not forgotten!!

Also thought the namplates were very apt, best ones IMO, Royal Scot, Patriot, King Arthur, Knight Of The Thistle, Howard Of Effingham, Willesden InterCity Depot, Wolf Of Badenoch, and Thane Of Fife

I loved every second. And They were great to drive. But I guess I was kinda biased !!

Without a doubt they had the best names. You never saw a tacky stupid name grace the sides of an 87. Well certainly not until Virgin/ Porterbrook started messing around with them.
Even then though they never went too bad.
