I think it may have been to do with a leak of the route and 350/390 from a beta tester. Only guessing though. Probably never know.
That is frustrating if that's the case, particularly as I'm sure they've done separate, reduced, timetables for the lower spec consoles before. Plus, as has been said, the Brighton Mainline DLC showcased what could be done with the timetable to make a route feel busy and alive. It's no coincidence that that's still my go-to route. They also have "layers" with different stock that can be turned on and off by the player to reduce the load on the console/PC.

I feel like, while true, they could also be using that as an excuse to spend less time developing, which feels like the DTG way sometimes

Four hour download for TSW5 advanced access for me - including all of my previous collection. I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow!

Yeah I've given in and started the overnight download as well (sadly full fibre ain't up here yet so I can only do about 60mbps).
Still intending to refund it almost immediately if it's as problematic as I've heard tho
Fairly sure that TS4, when its early access first came out, was just ECML, Antelope Valley, and whatever the German route was so was much quicker to D/L, before everything coming across on full release?

I know on the Steam version, you can right click the TSW5 game and press "Properties" then "DLC". You can just untick whatever DLC you don't want to download.
So before downloading TSW5, I unticked all DLC except for the new routes/trains.
I then opened up the game and started to play the new routes. At the same time, I went back into this menu and ticked a few more of my DLC so they would download in the background as I played.

Honestly - while I'm disappointed the modern building that housed my old flat now resembles a church hall! - WCML is nowhere near as bad as I'd been led to believe by the doubters. The timetable needs improving and it's particularly jarring seeing all these 4 car 350 services. But I won't be refunding this.

The biggest disappointment for me is the timetable, especially the LO and there’s also some missing Tring services. I think there’s also some missing Avanti services too but that’s actually kinda realistic considering their reliability record!

Yes, that's correct, the 390 is included in deluxe and special editions, and will be a standalone product, but is not in the standard edition.
I'm intending on getting the UK edition plus 390 when it officially releases on Tuesday, as I find I never drive any of the non UK routes. Still a bit apprehensive about getting it now, as the timetable mode is what I enjoy most about the game, and why I personally play it over Train Sim Classic.
I'm holding off too, in no rush to buy it.
Its pretty disappointing that the 390 isn't included in standard. TSW4 had the deluxe bonus as the Flying Scotsman (and an existing route) which is a nice add-on but the route is still good without it. A WCML without the Pendolino is missing a lot of services.

Yes, I would have a thought a freight locomotive or another railtour rake would have been better as a bonus than a 390 - perhaps even a 325 or one of those Varamis 321s.
Feels a bit like paying a premium to make the route feel complete.

I'm doing the same on Tuesday. From what I've heard, the DC lines timetable is a let down, but the main line timetable is generally ok (apart from 350s running short as 4 cars).

Anyone managed to find the free version of TSW5 on Steam? I can see all the paid versions and DLC add-ins but nothing resembling the £0.00 trial/starter supposedly available from this week. Online help suggests I go to Library and select TSW5 but it isn’t there, and only V4 is shown In my list.

Ah - That was hidden from me - I had to select the TSW5 option at £39.95 before it opened up the various versions and the page you showed - but got there in the end! TVM!

I'd give WCML 7/10. The Pendolino is an excellent drive and I'm enjoying the 'fast hopping' between station. It's let down by a poor DC lines timetable, 4 car 350s (which don't have saloon lights on at night), and fairly empty carriage/goods sidings.

You need to manually turn on the saloon lights on the 350 via the TMS screen.

The AI 350s at night do not have their interior lights on.

It makes the route feel oddly lacking particularly arriving at Euston and it's just all 350s.
I'm not seeing much improvement from TSW4 and still having the same stutter bugs plus if they're going this route of changing it each year I wish they'd keep the core part of it free and just upgrade it each year. It feels increasingly clumsy needing to now download the new game (currently 150GB and I only have UK DLC mostly), uninstall the old, set up the new game etc.

The cynic within me says it that releasing it as a brand new game with no negative reviews might be beneficial for them.

I was a bit puzzled because in game in TSW5 it shows some DLC is reduced but on the store page they're full price. However I've realised they're reduced under TSW4 but not TSW5 even though as far as I'm aware they function the same, I've bought the reduced TSW4 Blackpool DLC and seems to work fine in TSW5. For example. the Blackpool DLC is £30 here:

The TSW5 version of DLC's are considered to be "new" because they "released" only a few days ago. Steam doesn't allow "new" content to be discounted in a sale for a period of time, so it has to be sold at full price.

Seems odd given they allow other content that's been newly released to be discounted, it's not unusual to see 10% discounts in the first week of release to encourage a purchase. Either way I thought it useful for people to know to go to the TSW 4 page given the discounts are being advertised on TSW5 even though they're not available there.
Steam has a lot of rules around discounts. They allow new stuff to have a small discount on release, however new content can’t join ‘proper’ steam sales until a set time after release.
