Preston To Manchester Via Bolton
This line branches off the West Coast Main Line and goes into Manchester, via Bolton and the infamous Castlefield Corridor, one of the most congested lines in Europe.
The route was fully electrified around 8 years ago now, so EMUs are mostly used on this line. The length is about 35 miles.
And the Ordsall Cord could be included in this pack, which serves 2 trains an hour.
The great thing is, there is a big variety of trains that run this route, including the Class 331, Class 323, Class 397, Class 195, Class 802 and Class 185.
My personal preference would be the Class 331, and Class 802.
The Class 331 runs with the Class 323 in the North, and the Class 802/185 would be the only compatible train to run on the Ordsall Cord.
One massive reason I want this route is due to the route being able to intersect very well with the Blackpool Branches and Manchester Airport Commuter add ons. Therefore, a full Manchester Airport to Blackpool North could be done.
If there’s anything I’ve missed, please let me know, thank you.
