Train Set You Really Wanted but Didn't Get

What was the train set you really wanted but didnt get when younger,I wanted the Airfix“Inter City” BR Class 31 set with the Mk2 BR Blue/Grey Coaches with the tinted windows, it looked the business. The “Wild West” & “Dr X” looked good as well.

Christmas 1977. Opened my yearned-after Hornby HST set. Then, if I recall, my father played with it for most of that day...

Hornby APT....still gets to me that! I know I could easily buy one now but my taste have changed over time so it will remain the one that got away! Possibly one day.....

Way back when would be a Eurostar. Wouldn't mind one now but it's hardly a priority.

These days, a Pendolino. A few times I've came close, but it's still not in my grasp. Maybe before the year's up.

There's been a couple.

The one I DID get, and the one that was my first step into the world of model railways, was the "Twin Train Set" from 1994/5, which featured a Royal Mail red 47808 with five modern image wagons and Pacer 142020 in Tyne and Wear PTE yellow.

The other one was the "Spirits of the North" set in about 2001, which included a Virgin 47/8 with a pair of mark 2s and a Northern Spirit 142.

I always wanted two 3 car turbostars, one in FSR livery, the other in the Central Trains green livery, which I always rather liked.
Nowadays, I don't really want anything, and I think I'm going to have to sell most of what I have, as my car needs a new clutch

I got that 'Spirit of the North' set, and I always thought that the way the little 142 model juddered round the track was quite an accurate depiction of the real life ride quality of a 142!

A company called Realtrack Models are bringing out a well detailed RTR 00 gauge model of the 143 and 144 Pacers in the near future

The older Hornby models with both carriages powered were/are the best: After a couple of years the motors run out of sync, and you get the authentic strained revving noise that Pacers make as they move off as well as all the familiar juddering

I always wanted one of Hornby's Freightmaster Trainsets, I remember looking back in the Hornby 1998 Catalogue and seeing a set with a EWS class 37 with various wagons. It was great I used to look it for hours picturing it on my layout. Never got it though
